Why? I would expect based on the other DE’s that it’s server based.bittersalt123 wrote:People already lag on the AOE3 we have lol the problem is just going to get worse once this game is released i'm afraid. I hope it takes another few years to release it.

The #1 rule with the AOE franchise is to expect the worst.n0el wrote:Why? Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
It's a mix between good old P2P ( a small fraction) and a server-based system, much like SC2. Don't ask me how, but they mentioned in a blog post that that was what they were doing, the hybrid-system seems to work. Do you think they rewrote the network code for funsies?!iNcog wrote:wait wait waitn0el wrote:Why? I would expect based on the other DE’s that it’s server based.

Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
Just going to clarify this is the case for the DEs. However, AoE2:HD is purely p2p, unsure if that was a typo from iNcog.aaryngend wrote:It's a mix between good old P2P ( a small fraction) and a server-based system, much like SC2. Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
I'm pretty sure Incog is talking about the DE version. The HD version is just a glorified original version, just with HD graphics and little things touched up here and there. That said, I didn't realize his typo until nowEAGLEMUT wrote:Just going to clarify this is the case for the DEs. Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
Interesting. But just wondering, would server based gameplay split up the community? Assuming you have to select one, not sure how it works for aoe2 de.
oranges.
Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
Doubt it cause you can play aoe with 100 ping just fine.
Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
Well I suppose the success of it will depend on the size of the player base. Currently there’s too few players so ‘intercontinental’ connections are necessary to get a decent 3v3. Hopefully when de comes out people will play and keep playing.
oranges.
Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
I mean no way theres more lag with dedicated servers than p2p assuming they have a decent server spread.
Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
In theory, no, you can still join game rooms hosted on any server. In practice, it's been extremely buggy on AoE2:DE, with many people not being able to see any game rooms at all or only game rooms from one random server etc.Aizamk wrote:Interesting. Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
If you search for the game ID you can find whichever lobby people are using, or just the search names of the players. But that's only useful for unranked games.EAGLEMUT wrote:In theory, no, you can still join game rooms hosted on any server. Ranked it automatically chooses a server for you, idk how though

Pretty sure that's only there to show clearly that (falsely) blaming a family member is not a valid excuse to get to leak stuff, BEFORE anyone tries it.fightinfrenchman wrote:Is someone gonna break into your house and check the game out if you do thataaryngend wrote: Do not leave the Game running unattended.
