Why? I would expect based on the other DE’s that it’s server based.

I just hope DE is not going to implement all of the EP changes. Right now it is a big clusterfuck.

The #1 rule with the AOE franchise is to expect the worst.

It's a mix between good old P2P ( a small fraction) and a server-based system, much like SC2. Don't ask me how, but they mentioned in a blog post that that was what they were doing, the hybrid-system seems to work. Do you think they rewrote the network code for funsies?!

About what infos may be shared or not shared: better to be safe than sorry and have a zero information policy. Like a true gentleman, they enjoy but keep quiet :devilrazz:

Just going to clarify this is the case for the DEs. However, AoE2:HD is purely p2p, unsure if that was a typo from iNcog.

I'm pretty sure Incog is talking about the DE version. The HD version is just a glorified original version, just with HD graphics and little things touched up here and there. That said, I didn't realize his typo until now

Also, from the official NDA FAQ:

Do not take photos, videos, or audio recordings of the Game.
Do not post photos, videos, or audio recordings of the Game on any venue.
Do not describe any part of the Game on any venue unless we’ve instructed you to.
Do not allow others to watch you play the Game.
Do not leave the Game running unattended.

Interesting. But just wondering, would server based gameplay split up the community? Assuming you have to select one, not sure how it works for aoe2 de.

Well I suppose the success of it will depend on the size of the player base. Currently there’s too few players so ‘intercontinental’ connections are necessary to get a decent 3v3. Hopefully when de comes out people will play and keep playing.

I mean no way theres more lag with dedicated servers than p2p assuming they have a decent server spread.

In theory, no, you can still join game rooms hosted on any server. In practice, it's been extremely buggy on AoE2:DE, with many people not being able to see any game rooms at all or only game rooms from one random server etc.

If you search for the game ID you can find whichever lobby people are using, or just the search names of the players. But that's only useful for unranked games.
Ranked it automatically chooses a server for you, idk how though

Pretty sure that's only there to show clearly that (falsely) blaming a family member is not a valid excuse to get to leak stuff, BEFORE anyone tries it.
