So in this thread I'm going to post fights I lose, and ask if they are winnable with proper micro. Other posters can do the same thing.

Here is the first fight I've lost, RE ger vs japan:

If I don't get caught out of position, can I still win this fight? If I had 3 WW or 9 uhlan on the way, maybe. I think it's a hopeless fight even with micro, because WW can't turn around, and the developers decided to introduce a fast musketeer unit for no reason.

How are you supposed to scout enemy army if enemy has map hack factories around map?

Recently I took a pledge of abstinence against japan, in both playing as japan and versus japan, in principle. However I seemed to have forgotten that when I queued into quicksearch.

Why should anyone play a civ that has to micro perfectly when it's just a lot easier to zed move lots of fast musks and mele cav?

Probably not winnable even with better positioning. Maybe you could have bought more time with some good kiting if you weren’t caught out and been able to get out some more units.

Doppels are just straight up not bad units, right? If an actual melee engagement is on the field. I don't see very many top players making doppels but I do feel like they are a unit that can shine in the right situations. And those situations aren't rare and in between either. I think they can realistically come up in high level games.

That fight wasn't "winnable" but I reckon you could trade alright. It's fine to lose your skirm mass and some uhlans if you snipe enough ashis with skirms and nagis with wws.
And yes, it's frustrating to micro as ger vs japs, but jap players will tell you japs requires a ton of skill and ger can just z move uhlans

I can foresee the outcome of that battle with perfect micro being 15 ashis left. Cav trade each other, skirms die while sniping some ashis. Alternatively you lose all skirms and save the WWs but end up killing less ashis.

Dops would have been okay here only because japan had too few ashis. Vs a decent ashi mass, dops become garbage. You can't go in because the speed difference is only 0.5, so in fact ashis can kite twice as much as musks vs dops, which is huge. You can't really cover your skirms with them either because they'll just get sniped.

Wws are really your best hope vs ashi nagi, you just need to have very few skirms until your ww mass is large enough. And kite like crazy ofc. Sac the uhlans to snare nagis and allow your wws to kite more. Only when they start adding yumis, you should get more skirms/jaegers, or add uhlan

it's worth going dopps if you have something significant to protect from nearing enemy units, only thing i can imagine is falcs. dopps don't really synergyze well with large numbers of skirms
