The Greatest in ESOC history

  • Quote

Post by aligator92 »

It seems like every six month somebody opens a thread to discuss the top 10, top 5 or top 3 players of all time and usually everyone ends up agreeing that it is difficult to compare players who peaked at different times. In this thread, I would like to focus on the life-time of ESOC with its well document tournaments and present the 10 players who have impressed me the most in that time frame. As I am a fan of numbers and statistics, I actually went through all the tournament brackets and collected all the data I could. I have always wanted to do one of these big write-ups but as I am not a native speaker, please excuse the lack of fancy words and misplaced commas.
My judging criterions
So without further ado, strap yourselves in for a lot of numbers and even more text.

For everyone that made it to the end, well done! What do you think? Did you expect someone else in the top 10? Where would you have put Kaiserklein? What is your opinion on the Top 3?

I didn't, just felt like an 8 player weekend tournament did not quite measure up to the others

It was a small tournament for sure, and it can't be compared with major tournaments at all but the week-end tours were less competitive with weird rules or bo1 games.

I added it to list of minor tournaments. My main issue was it being an invitational and only having 8 players (granted 3 of them are on this list)

Also thanks for putting your list comments in spoilers. Very smart :)

I counted it as a minor tournament, so it didn't have enough weight to put him in the top 10.

He is Top 20, but 2 Top8 and 1 Top4 + 2 minor finals (winning one) don't measure up to what Kynesie has

Honestly, for me at NWC the match between tabben and diarouga was the real final of the tournament

For me Tabben is in top 10 Player

Yep, it's about the tournament record.
Your tournament results don't really show your real level anyway.

Depends on what you mean by real level I guess.

If real level = how good you can perform vs any given player on any map, then this gets distorted by the fact that in tournaments you can prepare special strats for particular maps, players etc.

So a tournament might show who is best prepared and most able to deal with pressure, not who has the best natural micro, macro, game sense and strategies.
