Most interesting/favorite civ matchups in your opinion

Post by TNT333 »

Like which matchup do u like playing or generally find interesting and unique the most??
Can include mirrors, tho without mirror's would be fine too.
Also for treaty too if u have

Given I play 90% france, I find playing port, aztec, brit and spain most interesting.

Liking Dutch-Brit a lot recently, Dutch-France is neat too
agree on China-Jap and India-Jap, China-India is the boring exception of inter-TAD MUs :P

Can someone explain how Jap mirrors play out??? Isn't it just standard Japan play until the better one wins??

Well it depends on which side you play the mu. For exemple many japan mu are interesting with jap side but the reverse is totally boring.

fre-ger
fre-iro
spain-fre (from spain side)
dutch-brit (when its not just dumb rush /defense).
port - russia
port - brit
sioux - inde

Yes, but often with faster than usual industrial timing. It's basically who can get away with more greed all the while not losing map (shrines). So primarily ashi fights but it is possible to mix it up.

No, there's a lot of diversity.

Kami aggressive, kami late colo, kami FI, 2v agressive, 2v semi ff, 300w rush, yumi/nagi, ashi/FA, ashi nagi, full ashi etc.
And on sea it becomes even more complicated.

It's by far the most map dependant mirror in the game, and it's very strategical (though there is a luck factor with the mind game).

Spain vs brits was my most fav MU, since i have to outplay my opponent or just to play better.
Twc civs vs tad civs were always my most interested Mu's.

Fre v Brit
Fre v Dutch
Fre v German
Fre v Iro
China v Brit
German v India
China mirror
Dutch mirror
Japan mirror
German mirror

There are more that I can’t think of in the 5 minutes on my break here, but I think for me the only civ that truly has only boring matchups is Aztec. They’re just so dull and one dimensional.

On RE I'd say it's still fine with TP start, and fixed crates is a thing for EP now. Before that I'd say with xbow buffs and Sepoy nerfs Germany probably had the upper hand on 200w start.

You forgot Dutch :P I'd say it's a good mirror.

Also, imo, you put Japan as a "good mirror" and not a great one, because you haven't seen the evolution of the MU and all the options you have. Regarding China mirror, it's not the best mirror, but it's still quite interesting imo, you have more than just one build order.
