how to improve APM

my friend has amazing micro
we play mirror and do the same bo but i got rekt. he can hit and run with muskets when fighting, and raiding with cav at the same time, AND KITE MY PIKES.
i learned every word from gooodspeed's guide but i just can't win. i have about 150 apm so i think he has 300.

I had 150 APM, then I left AOE one month to go to sc2 and now I have 250

APM helps sure but I think that strategy is more important in aoe3.

no tenkokugen has 30 apm. he doesnt need micro as hes always doing the right thing

btw the apm gets higher the better you play, not the other way around

otto needs less APM

I would say that France doesnt require much APM but TAD civs do.

@garja' You can spam and have a high APM but that doesnt matter.

I used to have 120-170 apm but couldn't fight on three fronts. Not sure what it is right now, but I still can't fight on three fronts.

APM is REALLY overrated in AOE3. I mean REALLY overrated.

1st: Strategy is always >>> APM. When you have massed Strelets and fight vs Hussars you gonna lose regardless of what you do. Sure, that may sound stupid but how often does the better strategy win vs the better player? Remember mongo10 vs Samwise12 in the last tournament? Mameluckes won for mongo10, yet Samwises micro was still miles ahead of mongo's. There are countless examples.

2nd: Nothing is gained by clicking on your TC every 0.2 seconds. Nothing is gained by giving ur explorer ten thousand orders at once and then cancel all way points cause a treasure is found. The list goes on, you could raise your APM to 300 without doing anything that helps your game. Be fast with your RELEVANT clicks!!

A good example:
StarSky was pretty much THE best player during vanilla. He had insane APM and was REALLY good at controlling his sh1t and he was owning the likes of iamgrunt, black_ice_spain, GG_magic and so on on a regular basis.
NaturePhoenix was like top 5 all time. He had not even half of StarSkys APM yet he played incredibly good cause his game knowledge was FAR superior than the knowledge of most other players.
I have seen both at numerous LANs and qualifiers in germany.

APM is overrated!
