New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
Just a thought: would there be interest in a set of maps where the locations of hunts, mines and TPs were absolutely known and equal, or at least guaranteed to be perfectly symmetrical? This would take the small element of chance that comes with better hunts, etc. out of the game (though it would also minimize the benefits of scouting patterns, etc.) I think this would allow for a challenge of strategy and tactics to come to the fore.
Re: New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
Yeah that's what I find interesting too, but some people like the diversity. I just personally wnat the amount of hunts to be slightly more consistent.

Garja prefers when it's random, #ES logic.

Re: New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
I've already done this actually, check out my map called Guinea.
Re: New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
That's funny, because this is actually my current project. Making a map 100% symetrical, but still 100% random (spawns need to always be different). I have suceeded to made it thanks to a new algorithm for hunt and mine spawns. The map is close to be finished, and it's going to be released in the next map pack.

Cool riki, looking forward to that!

Yes it is, but when it's symetrical.
Like if you both have a bad map, it's fine, cope with it. But if you have bad hunts while your opponent has 3 big bison herds, you're just fucked.
You can rush, but well, rushing is bad and if your opponent plays well you'll lose.
Re: New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
What Riki is describing is good so long as it's not fixed states. I would be interested in seeing what algorithm is the new one.

That's never the case on ESOC maps, tho. What happens sometimes (even less after the last patch update) is that one player might have a 2nd and 3rd hunt, while other player has even a 4th and a 5th relatively close. And that's actually consequence of wanting the maps with so many resources.

2 hunts vs 4 is a big deal.
Re: New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
Actually it is not. Guy with 2nd and 3rd hunt can't complain that opponent got better hunt position when his hunts are more than fine. It's like complaining that opponent got better treasures when you got decent ones on your half. Makes zero sense. Not to mention hunts move and can be herded.
Re: New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
Well treasures are a balance issue on their own. With that in mind, is another random factor of balance to such a degree wanted?

Garja wrote:What does it mean?
It means that treasures' randomness is already big and that we shouldn t add resources randomness.
Re: New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
Well, if that's the meaning then let me say that treasures are fine and controlled randomness in resources is more than fine.
Re: New Map Thought, Partuclarly for Tournament
what about the explorer spawn point? those few extra steps can mean so much!
you guys sound obnoxious complaining about randomness, which is an important aspect of the game.
