I just went through this entire ordeal for like two weeks after my mouse broke trying to find a new one that made me comfortable.

Steel Series rival 100/110 (good call Gibson and edeholland I think) and I play around 1000 dpi I believe.

As long as I can get from the top left corner of my screen to the bottom right in one short motion I’m good. 2500 and all thAt seems a bit excessive.

It largely depends on the mouse too because some mouse simply don't allow the fingertip grip which is how you want to ideally play RTS games. With little mice and proper grip it's possible to do rather precise and agile movements. In RTS games you don't need to hit the exact pixel anyway so the most important thing is to hit let's say 60x60 pixel targets consistently and fast.

Just tried 400 dpi and it’s a bit too low. I have to move my mouse basically all the way across my mousepad for extreme movements. I’m sure I could get used to it but for no benefit there’s no reason to

I'm on 5700dpi. You won't make me change, just like you won't make gibson go vote.
Once I get a new mouse I wanna go higher, this is max on my current desktop mouse.
I'm using a G500 this way for like 8 years.

Well i just checked my mouse control pad thing and it actually says that my CPI is on 3000. Im not really computer savy but i assume thats sensitivity? So mines actually pretty high lol

how do people play with so high sense lol, my mouse goes up to 4k dpi and with that I can go from 1 corner of my screen to the other by moving my mouse half an inch. Impossible to be precise.

Because Windows settings, game settings and other things also influence it. I doubt anyone configured his mouse to move from one end of the screen to the other by moving 1mm.

Ye half inch is a lot for RTS games. It's basically as much as you can scroll the mouse vertically without lifting the hand.
