haha i dont see why my unit control was bad those games, he had like 7 gold mines and i had 2 in the last game which is only reason game didnt end when i got fort. I also ran when i hit fort which i shouldnt have because i didnt realize how far ahead I was.
He lost his damyio, and lost on a push when he had gold mines and I had to do full mill transition and he had shipped flaming arrows.

H20 it would be cool to see you and interjection do a video reviewing these games. I like to hear your opinions and reasons for what you decide to do.
Its also cool to see a recorded game of Iamgrunt for once. He was good at not letting replays of him get out to the world.

a guy like grunt didn't go to college after hs for video games (which imply he did it full time) and made 130k from it + he won first aoe tourn in 2000, so 7 years before wcg 07. even tho he was obviously talented, it makes sense he became good quickly

Boneng kinda has shitty res management as well, but he plays so strange that its unpredictable. His unit macro is good tho, map awareness etc

Re: WCG 2008 Finals
I know I'm commenting on a really old thread here, but is anyone able to replay these recorded games? Do I need to install the old patch that this was run on online? I'm really interested.

Yes, you'll need to watch this on the correct patch of the legacy game (not the Definitive Edition).InvisibleUnit wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 02:04I know I'm commenting on a really old thread here, but is anyone able to replay these recorded games? Thanks. Where would you get it? I didn't quite find what I was looking for through a simple internet search.

Re: WCG 2008 Finals
Indeed, it's available on Steam:
Microsoft does keep it priced at a ridiculous $39.99 however, and to be honest I don't think the patch that is on Steam is the right patch to view these recorded games, so it would require additional shenanigans to get the right patch installed.

Re: WCG 2008 Finals
I'm 90% sure that RE patch can run WCG recs no problem. Zutazuta casted these games several years ago off of the same patch.musketeer925 wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 02:54Indeed, it's available on Steam:

Lol. This video got me back into aoe3 in 2014.

Me a ribbon, they, all dead

Re: WCG 2008 Finals
Yea you can cast them on RE, or well you can at least play them on RE as i've gone through all of them would just be a matter of adding Aiz's ui.Mitoe wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 17:56I'm 90% sure that RE patch can run WCG recs no problem. Might be an idea to do a modern cast of them on ESOC or something.

Re: WCG 2008 Finals
I'll give it another go. I recall seeing a "Out of Sync with the original game"-like error message when trying to run it on my steam copy of The Asian Dynasties, as you'd expect if you were on the wrong ESOC patch. In this case, I thought I'd have to install an old patch of aoe3.
It's really interesting to hear about how this game's meta has evolved and I thought I'd enjoy looking at some old games myself!

Re: WCG 2008 Finals
The out of sync is what I'd expect on the latest Steam build. I think you could likely install an older patch on top of the Steam version if you have that already - I can dig up the patch installers a bit later, I think I have them all.
Re: WCG 2008 Finals
I just watched all 3 of them to completion on the official patch - all official patches were backwards compatible with all recs on earlier official patches.musketeer925 wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 20:10The out of sync is what I'd expect on the latest Steam build. I did, however, have to rename the files to not have a "." before .age3Yrec
