Quote tags not displayed

Is there no way to fix the lack of quote author tags displaying, because it seems that they do show up when you make the post

which means the fields are available on the backend, in the database, per each quoted post.

But they don't show up when the server response is templated and output on the frontend.
So I assume this must be a templating problem, some fields must be missing from the PHP template that outputs those fields retrieved from database calls.

Maybe we can help with some suggestions if you describe what the problem is.

Already working on it, but it's a significant amount of work.
Essentially, the templates still haven't been migrated to the new phpbb forum version at all. Once that's done, we will have quotes working again, along with all the new features of phpbb 3.2.
Upgrading the templates has vast consequences / side effects across the entire site, so I need to make sure everything looks and functions properly before releasing live. I've gotten quite far already so stuff like new quotes in particular is working well on the work-in-progress upgraded version. I think the next time I get a chance to sit and work on this I can get it to a releasable state, probably.

Question: is it possible to have quotes link to the post instead of the author? It saves the post_id but that isn't used at all currently. I think a link to the post is more useful than to the author if I had to choose and if both isn't a possibility.

There is both. Username links to the author, while the arrow ↑ links to the quoted post.
