Request to remove the Off Topic section

I just don't see anything currently on the forum which is worth warning, temp or perma-banning people.

There is a lot of light discussion in the off-topic (which could be seen as spammy, perhaps troll), but that's no reason to "moderate" people. There are a few posters who I don't particularly like due to the lack of content, but again, that's no reason to ban them (as some people have asked me to do). Moderation should only really be used when necessary, this has been what we've been going for since the the start of the site. We shouldn't moderate people because subjectively speaking, they are annoying. Moderate the toxic people, yes. We don't really have any of those here, sorry to say. The last one was Arkz and even his suspension will end at some point.

ESOC should not be some place where users are forced to post in a conform manner towards what moderators want. That's not inclusive. The ESOC team isn't above the rest of the community, we're all a part of it.

I didn't mean to grab the ban hammer and start a banfest, lol I'm with you to let things take their course and be more relaxed about, idk, cursing, occasional harsh debates or topics politically correct communities would usually avoid. That's not my point though. I see it very often when I cross-read the forums, that people rather tend to be toxic and cold to each other than respectful. Back on the ProBoards site we had some cases of pure trolling that were neither opposed nor penalized in any way, because it was trivialized. I'm against granting trolling a free ticket, because trolling creates a toxic, unlikeable atmosphere by artifically creating conflicts. I know that some people like to see trolling as an art, a legit rhetoric discipline and childish fun. You may see it like that, but when it's obvious who's pouring oil on the fire and/or artificially heating up a debate, he should be made responsible for it.

The off topic section to me is like the troll section of the forums in a way. I think moderation has been loose in that section and I am not really too interested in reading topics in that section myself. But it is an area on the forum that some people like to participate in. Having it separate from all of the age of empires discussion helps keep it from intruding on those who want aoe3 topics.

As a wise person said earlier in this thread, this communety would be very poor without Off topic, and frankly my dear, I do not think anyone would dear to get rid of it.

I think Eso communety is very rare in this regard - we are a part of an old game, and some of us has been around for a long time, - so we are not only teens. We want a forum that can hold the game, and some serious discussion on "how the world turns" as well. This is what Esoc is to me - and I am happy with IT
