Late game army composition - Russia
Late game army composition - Russia
If you've seen the other versions of this thread, then you know the drill.
Russia. Unit comps. Go!
We all know the classic Musk Strel Coss comp, but does this cut it in a late game battle versus something like France or India? Perhaps, perhaps not. I've learned that Oprichniki are incredibly powerful in the right hands, and that outright winning the battle isn't necessary if you can wedge a couple in their eco. Let me know what you think, I am still learning Russia so I have less input, but late game Russia is a force to be reckoned with.

Re: Late game army composition - Russia
Strelets are said to be incredibly cost-effective, but they're not that good pop-efficiently. Add guard Cavalry Archers, raid with Oprichniks, like lemmu said, and of course if it's late game we're talking about, don't forget about artillery!
Re: Late game army composition - Russia
I usually go for guard musketeer and those lovely heavy cannon shipments Russia gets. Usually in a team game you can rush hard then ease off and go industrial very quickly. Simply manage to keep your blockhouses + ship the four heavy cannons and its gg.
But don't forget:
- Strelet are very good for the price and decent in late game when you have sent the HC upgrades
- Oprichniks have multiplier vs artillery and are very useful for getting enemies factories/settlers
- Cavalry archers are essential
- Russia's main strength is artillery and infantry. They have very lovely shipments for both and can mass easily.
- You need map control late game or you lose eco majorly. Russia love hunts.

Cossacks, strelets and cav archers are all good units. Opris for raiding is really good too.

I would stay away from cossacks. There's no need. You should always opt for cannon as Russia unless under pressure.
You are better off mass raiding with Oprichnik.
Re: Late game army composition - Russia
Why? Cossacks are a great unit, better than cannons easily.

Cossacks are not good cavalry. Even if you are getting lots of batches out there is no point because they will die quicker.
This is late game so they can die pretty easily to Dragoons and Skirmishers. Russia need to train Musketeers anyway in late game, so a Musk/Cannon is just better.
You save food as well, which is nice because you might have begun to transition by then.
It's actually cheaper to get some cannon, plus Russia have incredible cannon shipments that blow away the competition.

Id invite you to take a good look at cossack stats.

Cannon, CA, musk and some opris to raid seems good imo.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

This is late game. Other cavalry are just superior. Why would I waste resources?

cossac is one pop, probably more efficient then any cav, other then cuirs.

It's not really efficient if they die. This is pretty match-up dependable though.
Generally they are still terrible. You're just much better off with other units in your composition.
Re: Late game army composition - Russia
He does have a point, though, I don't think you need Cossacks later on when you have CA, Opris and artillery.
Pop-efficiently they're indeed amazing, though with hand cavalry you perhaps have to take space-efficiency into consideration, too

tbf, I would stick to ca + strell.
But when someone argues that one of the best cavs ingame is useless trash, its a good bait

Russia has 2 shipments of 2 Heavy Cannons. You can train falconets from Blockhouses. The Developers are giving you a hint.
