Efficient Swings to kill a vill

I was lurking on some old AoE3 forums where I came across this post. This guy has written number of hits required by single cav to kill a village. If you find anything wrong in the figures feel free to correct(no flame pls). So here it goes.

Many people have been disputing about which cav is best for raiding, so I experimented and came up with this table.

After doing the division for the first 5 units, I decided that making a test scenario would be faster(I am a discrace
to my asian family )

This is with standard, un-upgraded units and un-upgraded settlers, with the exception of Age 3 obtainable units set to veteran/elite/disciplined status:

Heavy Cavalry

I don't really think trample attack is viable here so I did factor in the .20 vill hand armor don't worry.


Hussar - 7 hits to kill villager

Uhlan - 6(very close to 5)

Cossack - 8(very close to 7)

Coyote Runner - 11

Axe Rider - 6

Dog Soldier - 7

Kanya Horseman - 7

Sowar - 10

Naginita - 7

Steppe rider - 13

Age 3 Heavy Cavalry

Veteran Lancer - 10(very close to 9)

Veteran Oprichnik - 4 (very close to 3)

Spahi - 6 (has Splash damage)

Veteran Cuirassier - 7(has splash damage)

Tashunke Prowler - 13(has splash damage) using 12 tashukes - 6

Disciplined Iron Flail - 10

Disciplined Meteor Hammer - 6(because of its range, villagers attack you ranged, though you are meleeing them)

Mamaluke - 6

Elmeti - 5

Stradiot - 4

Hackapell - 2


Light(ranged) Cavalry

Remember, they have a melee attack too


Zamburak - 20
Melee - Villager kills. Without Villager attack - 22

Keshik - 37
Melee - Villager kills. Without Villager attack - 19

Bow Rider - 8
Melee - 4 ( i think this is a mistake lol i'll check )

Age 3 Light Cavalry

Veteran Dragoon - 18
Melee - 18

Veteran Ruyter - 22
Melee - Villager kills. Without Villager attack - 22

Veteran Cavalry Archer - 22
Melee - Villager kills. Without Villager attack - 29

Disciplined Yabusame - 38
Melee - 25

Veteran War Wagon - 8
Melee - 18

Disciplined Howdah - 5
Melee - 12

Eagle Runner Knight - 20
Melee - Villager kills. Without Villager attack - 18

Rifle Rider - 24(can be obtained in age 2 with card)
Melee - 18

Musket Rider - 15
Melee - too much to count (got lazy doing math)

Manchu - 12
Melee - 14

Black Rider - 8
Melee - 30

Ok, so we see that, even though villies have hand armor, but not ranged armor, the .5 multiplier on 90% of Light Cav makes them more inefficient for raiding. We see that putting LC in melee mode does more dammage in some cases, and can block the path for villies, but the villie hand attack is strong enough to kill or severely weaken LC.

Nice work from that guy.

I mainly remember that aoe3 mentions that Steppe Riders are 'good' vs villagers, but they are the slowest in it (13 hits!).
With the card (7) however they beat the 3 hussar card.

sugestion for next experiments/math:
Number of shots to kill a vill or a cdb, both with great coats, with the units most used early game. (I would start with musk, xbow, lb, sepoy, toma, ashi, jani)

Thats a situation that happens pretty much every game, that info can be really usefull.

I'd rather copy/paste a already made post but can't be bothered to do it on my own, at least for now. But who knows, I might do that next weekend :?:
but yeah musks, ashi, sepoy are common and should be added for sure.

more important, great coats, since its done almost every game in transition to colonial already..

If someone set up a program with important numbers as the variables, these sort of calculations could be made very quickly. I see matlab working real well for this but I'm too lazy to find a pirated copy

Edit: Python programming would work just as well imo

Any Programming can work tbh, I can tryna make an Android App for that but don't know if it worth putting time.

Hmm an app would be very sick. I don't know if it's super worth your time though as we already receive great statistics from the post game graphs and most calculations can be done on the fly when needed

No, I meant another card which increases attack against villagers by Light Cavalry. But it's not available for Dutch.

i'm talking about the market upgrade that grants vills extra hp
the vast majority of games consist in people taking that upgrade in transition to age2, and then getting attacked by small amounts of age2 units, thats why i said that calc of musketeer vs great coat vills is super relevant

meanwhile, howdahs vs unupgraded vills its absolutely pointless, since a howdah raid might happen in one game every thousand, but even in that case, the vill will have great coats, so it still it a wrong data.

I think Warrior Culture (age IV, +200% vill attack) could be interesting if it was sendable age I or age II...
Also, assuming an Aztec goes age III, would Ruthlessness (+0.5 bonus against vills for noble hut units) be a funny troll strat? All knights have a very unique use...

Perhaps it is good to not only strive to get better civilization balance, but also make more shipmemts viable in general - bringing the spirit of the game back to life.
