Russia against Germany

This was on vanilla but I found it odd so thought I would share. This is on sonora. Took map control hemmed him up in his base so 1 gold mine for Germany and lots of wood and thats about it so mass xbow and towers was what he could build. As he widdled down my wave of strelet musk that had been terrorizing him for several minutes I decided to mass grens. The grens show up just in time for a batch of dopps several pikes and 2 uhlans to show up. The grens wiped the entire army including another batch of 5 uhlans. So for the German players have you had this happen? Are grens a problem for Germany as I have never had an issue or is it just non meta and throws players off?

It's very ambitious for Russia make grenadiers vs German but if he is doing bows instead of age up to fortress, why not add some grenadiers

Yeah I knew it was risky and could have just as easily aged and went opri or falc but I got a wild hair and wanted to play with the grens.

Yes in general they are I found it amusing to watch his dopps fall so quickly but it was a case of he really had few options by that point and really could not get anything more than a batch out while I pulled his towers down. As ottos I've never had an issue with grens the maybe 5 times I have seen them so found it curious dopps could not get in range and uhlans easily fell to them.

So I've been rethinking this and the times. Had I gone up and started going opri that dopp batch would have denied my raid since my strelets were keeping him busy on one side giving him more time. The uhlan batch would have taken out the falcs if I shipped them. So either grens or many more ruskets would have been needed. Idk in that spot I am happy with the call I made instead of the conventional approach. Definitely gets raped if he makes it up to fort though.

No, grens are just bad.
If you think you can age, do it, else kill him in colonial with musk/strel/coss. You don't need siege units lol.

A standard way to play this MU as ger is to make a big bows/uhlans/dop timming in age 2, so if you do grens, there absolutly no way you hold that.

Ok well Im still on trying to learn Russia and I end up facing Germany fairly often. Xbow/uhlan/dopp is the standard and somehow I still manage to knock it down but not enough to secure the win against a decent opponent. So as Germany what would you hate seeing Russia fielding/doing? Opri raids/musk/falc?

Sometimes Khorix use Oprichnik for fight as cossacks. seeming good

It depends, if ger tries for an age 2 timming, you need a solide fb (with 2bh), and a lot of musk/cossacks I think. If ger guys tries for an ff I am really not sure, what I would try is a timing to kill him befor he can take advantage of his age up, but there is other option and I don't rly know :/
What I know though is that it's a bad MU for russia.

The ff is what kills it. So far in colonial I can manage but if they slip the noose and get aged its all down hill so far.

@bwinnner You'd probably go for a colo timing only on no tp and/or low resources maps tbh. Semi-ff just sounds safer most of the time, there's no reason to risk overcommitting under 2 bh when you can just hold and age instead. So what you need is to try and timing push when ger is aging and do as much damage as possible, without overcommitting, and then hold the german age 3 push in your blockhouses. But it's a shitty mu for russia

Well I will toy with it for now since dutch and brits leave as soon as the map loads and apparently most ottos at ms-2nd lt don't know how to beat it.

Yeah actually russia is a bit hard to deal with for medium level player because defending is often harder for them than for pro and russia is very offenssiv.
