I have heard of this mythical troll strategy, but what is the best way to do it? age with crates and ship 700C? or is the bank build better for this?

I strongly suggest to go semi with a pike boom first and then go petard FF

see aizamk vs bsop smackdown otto vs brit game. fast otto ff with 4 hussars and build 5 petards on forward base. If enemy is ffing you can destroy tc and kill all vills. game over.

Actually mm rape petards, so if the opponent has the res and reacts fast you're pretty much fucked.

The full petard strat involves skipping 3 vills, aging with the tower, first shipment is 700 coin. Age fast amd send the tower forward. immediately ship 6 petards upon hitting fortress. You can have the tc down by 7:20 if you are quick. Works pretty well vs a spain ff if the tc is down before they age. Followup to petards is 9 ruyt 8 skirm or swiss pikes. The ultimate in nooby troll strats. I have a rec if youd like

That's why experienced petard lamers such as @Rikikipu and myself use their explorers to siege down 100 hp from the tc a couple minutes before petarding it

OK let's consider that I can destroy the enemy TC
Now how do I affront the enemy units if I am without army
in practice I do not think you can go ff and send the petards as the first card and think easily destroy the enemy tc without first kill enemy unit

If i recall correctly the petard rush was originally developed to counter the spain ff, as you would hit their tc about 10 seconds before they finished aging.
In practice i just keep the petards in my deck and use it as a "remove one fort/tc/factory" shipmemt. Especially good if someone tries to still a fort on top of your resources. Not top tier stuff but decent
