Hunting or Massacring?

Post by ShinkuroYukinari »

Hey guys! :flowers:
I noticed during the LAN tourney that pros like to kill basically all of their hunts quite early on as opposed to killing one at a time to reduce decay.
Can someone explain the strategy behind this and how I should potentially utilise this?

That's because your villagers have to walk from an animal to another, and thus you lose villagers seconds if you put all your vills on the same animal.

Interesting. What about the food decay, how much does it influence?

@ShinkuroYukinari you want to have not too many, nor too few vills on the hunts. A good number is like 4-5 per animal imo. If you have the apm, you can also shiftclick your vills to the next animal. What I like to do as well to reduce bumping and walking time, is to decrease the number of vills gathering per animal as the food left on it comes close to 0.

Dunno, i prefer to kill many, especially the start hunt, which is usually smaller than other hunts and if for example that last 1 bison wanders off, it can be a real pain to herd it back. So i generally prefer to kill the entire start hunt.

If they wander off, sure. Or when you know you are going to need all of your focus on a treasure or smth of the sorts, and you want to ensure everything will go smoothly inbase.

same, I prefer to kill many at once despite the decay loss because I can then control where and which animals are dead instead of my villagers doing it on their own; if you have 5 hunts under your TC, you might as well kill them there so that it's close for your settler to gather the meat and not let them be herded away from said TC by accident
