i need your france recorded games

Post by Squamiger »

I've tried using the recorded games library, but it's hard to figure out which recs to watch since there are so many from different patches and using different strats.

I want to watch these recs for France, preferably at the 30+ level so I can really see the build done perfectly:

1. a musket semi-FF that wins
2. a cav semi-FF that wins
3. a naked FF that wins
4. a Samwise build that wins
5. an xbow/pike play that wins
6. an FI that wins
7. a Native play that wins

who's got em??

@amiggo1999 @samwise12 @Mitoe could tag more but i guess it should be fine since we talk about recs.
Edit : found one nice game on @Veni_Vidi_Vici_W channel, Sam vs Bsop

so in this rec sam never makes a TP. is that standard for the samwise colonial build? I've tried and I always chop for a TP in transition, but I also never seem to be able to get the huss and musk out by 6 min. is that because I shouldn't make a TP?

Ye if you make a tp you can't get as much stuff out.

With the classic Samwise build, you should not get a tp. However, on EP you're better off starting 4v 700w with one military building and adding a second military building from the wood while getting a TP in transition. This nets you more units later in the game and allows for a flexible ageup option.

For the musk semi, unfortunately I haven't got a rec but I have a twitch VOD that might be useful: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/746864292?t=01h40m13s.

As for the xbow/pike play, check out the game on Florida viewtopic.php?p=420470. This build is mostly used against Japan but can be situationally used against other civs, especially on RE.
The Tuparro game featured a french FI viewtopic.php?p=454889#p454889. This build is basically only used against British.
Natives really aren't that good, especially with the nat xp revert, and the only reason you see them is because people try to do funky stuff. If you are trying to improve, you should refrain from using natives.

I wrote a French guide some years ago.
It is outdated but still some good basics.

As for Natives imo they aren't really viable on 90% of maps as you're usually better off just making the unit type from the nat post yourself. There are a few maps where you can train some nats where it's actually good, like with rattans (especially with india, means you actually have a good cav unit + the wood upgrade). When there is only one nat type (e.g pure heavy inf) to go for it's usually not worth to send upgrades for them, which makes them quite underwhelming. Cascade range is one of the few maps with decent complimentary nats that also don't suck by themselves. So going full nat is worth as you can ship insanely strong upgrades for them. Another scenario is that you build a cherokee tp for example, in order to get cheaper market techs and 4vills. If you get pushed by heavy inf, It's definitely a good idea to train some to defend.

I suggest learning 1 build order and just getting it down properly. At your rank a slick BO wins whatever your opponent does. Pretty sure thats what most people did to get to RE captain

It's kind of bad advice. A standard "semi" is going to get blasted by lt lvl all in rushes all day long.

Bow pike or samwise.
ESOC : came for the game, stayed for the drama.

Bow pike is probably easier to do correctly (easier macro).

I find bow pike is harder macro. Getting the right amount of gold for steep traps, tp, stagecoach or not, crate shipments affecting your wood income a lot so getting the number of vils on wood correct is hard for me.
Maybe it's because I'm so used to doing normal musk or huss builds he macro seems easier for samwise.

here we go, I try to copy your build:

the problem is you win at 13:30 so after I have to improvise. and I play so bad... getting raided and stopping vill production once the fighting starts. but I think I pull the build off decently

I can rec a few of my games and send them to you. I'm only a bit better but probably a big enough difference to highlight a few of the things you could improve.

Here are two games I played tonight with different openings. The macro was rubbish on the musk one (think it might be because I was getting tired.) Hopefully they give you some ideas of what you can improve. I'd also appreciate some feedback from some better players.
