against french late game

hey,
i never won against french in a late game (i play brits, solo or in team game). The gendarms are to strong. What is the best strategy or best civ against french in late game on Nilla?

Back when I was playing quite a number of FFAs I liked to go Brits vs French since you have top tier cavalry with 3 upgrades and redcoats. Not sure how it is on nilla, the French don't have Thoroughbreds there, right?

there is no way to beat them with british, you must outplay him hard to do so.

brits can be ok because they have the strongest goons and their cav is good too, ports are another good opton becase of 20range op jinetes. Basically a civ with good anti cav and solid eco.

Gendarmes can be dealt with (with lots of difficulty), but dealing with the voltiguers in the back, some cannons AND gendarmes is hard.

The best thing is to scout and see your opponent's unit composition. He makes Gendarmes you make Goons, REMEMBER TO GET UPGRADES FROM ARSENAL AND UPGRADE CARDS FROM HOMECITY If possible get the unit upgrades from Native Trade Posts as well. Remember to KITE, once your Goons are snared by his Gendarmes it will be hard* to get away. For skirms make cav, and for goons make longbows

Thoroughbreds is a card that makes cuirs training instant.
French has better late game IMO than Brits, 80-vill eco and guard skirms+cuirs.

80cdb = 100 brit vils provided they have done the same upgrades(which people usually do)
brit has royal huss+royal musk+ guard goons, its pretty much even imo

you have more pop for military units, French have eco theory, goons are not guard and you have to have many upgrades for them to be good - the same can be done with French, you can put many skirm upgrades

yeah the pop argument is valid, goons are guard not royal, but yes the skirms are royal for french

indeed, much more upgradable, add to that pioneers and you can win a decisive fight, also musk and huss don't see much usage in late game

well you add 3 vill then eco theory then pioneers to age 1 card? most people at most 2 cards in age1. but I really think brit vs french is even on RE

If you opt for late game, you can fit it in there. When I know, for instance, that I won't be harrassed at all in age 2 (think: vs China), I don't put any unit shipments in colonial.
Also, I don't see much difference between RE and EP apart from the goon nerf, which actually hurts Brits more

Lategame is not really relevant in 1v1 since games never get there. However in industrial+ french has the edge because their units are better.

yeah, even early fortress is OP for french

In nilla brit goon = port goon I think. cav att, hp, combat = royal guard + goon combat as they are all 10% improvements back there.
In a world of non instant gendarmes and OP lbows I think brits stand their ground against french.

Ports can deal with French during late game. The Jenite Goons can negate the Cuirs but the voligeurs are kinda problematic if combined with Curis and falcs.
