BWKiC seems OP against Russia, but that alone doesn't make it that special. Lots of things are OP against Russia...

I guess it would work as a way to avoid a long, drawn-out colonial struggle with Russia's cheaper and cost-effective units. Falcs blow away Strelets and knock down blockhouses, while the Black Watch take care of the Cossacks. Stupid weak strelets have crappy range, so they can't be expected to pick off Highlanders like skirms would.

The strong little army you get from BWKiC isn't very mobile, though, especially if you got Thin Red Line

This seems like something that would crash and burn against a good Spain tbh. It's easier to hit him with musk/huss when he ages and kill all his shit as it comes out. Marching into his base with 2 falcs and 8 highlanders at 8 minutes is a terrible idea. By that point, he will have skirms and cannons coming (if not there), and your huge investment will get kited to death. The same goes for any other powerful ff civs, with the possible exception of Germany.

Pretty noob game, against PR <20, but I think shows a good execution of this particular fun strategy

I've been using this strategy for some time now and here are some notes I took:
— you can queue 2 villagers once you hit Colonial. 700 c shipment takes some time to arrive, and with all your villager on food you will manager to click to Fortress once you gathered the coin.
— I don't chop any wood in transition to Fortress, just 1150 food for Black Watch and minutemen, then all on gold. Instead, I chop 105 wood in transition to Colonial (100 w for a church) to get 3 manors from the age up 400 w. Then I'm not housed after BW + 2 falcs and can easily send Jaegers afterwards.
— I used to gather coin even after the Jaeger shipment, since you can send then 9 Highlanders for 1000 c and13 Jaegers for 1500 c, maybe even 9 Barbary Corsairs for 1000 c. You can sneak a market for gold upgrades, but I'd generally say it's an easy way not to be overwhelmed with macro. You put all of your vills on mines and just micro hard with your army, which is a necessity.
All in all, it's a fun strategy, but pretty micro-intensive. It could serve as a nice training for your APM since with Highlanders and Jaegers you waste a lot of damage on overkills. The most important task I consider protecting your falcs, because if you lose them you'll lose the momentum and will have to wait for the Jaeger shipment to arrive. It's really tricky because 8 Highlanders may not be enough to body-block opponent's cav. I'd say it's easy for them to have like 10 hussars by the time you aged up to Fortress and just suicide them on your cannons.

I have yet to try this in a 1v1 (I did try it in a 5p FFA, but that doesn't really count). Should you age to Colonial with 14 or 17 vils? And would it be a good idea to build an early TP so you can get all the cards out in a timely fashion (it seems way too slow otherwise).

If you are going to use this strat for defensive purposes like against spain ff or you are expecting 8-9 timing push and want to hold it in your base or for whatever but strictly defensive purposes then you can do a slight variation and do the vc build you will still age up at same time and have everything exactly same except you will have much better eco considering your macro is top notch Other wise you will be 30 sec late but you will be defensive so doesn't matter
