Re: Names with unique meanings?
My usual pseudo online is Angelo Pardi, who is the main character of my favourite book. But for AoE3, I chose to use the title of the book (so Le "Hussard sur le toit", the Hussar on the roof" in English), well, because of the word Hussard in it !
(It's an amazing book by the way, Giono is one of the best stylist of the French literature and this novel is wonderfully written - when he describe the heat, you sweat - and also a good read right now because it is set during a cholera epidemic. It also has smooth dialogue and the character's love interest is the best woman ever.)

My name is derived from two things that were occuring at the time when i created it, firstly the London Riots in 2011 and a cocaine bust that happened a couple of doors down from a friends house, i was thinking of what to use as a minecraft name and those were the two most interesting things at the time i could think of so i put them together.

Reminds me of the word onomatopoeia, when a word’s pronunciation imitates its sound.harcha wrote:harcha is when you spit out your snot

e.g. in German I believe it would be "Hatschii".

When I visited London in ~2006, there was a big street ad for Oasis soft drinks. Roughly 5 years later I started using it as a nick name.

squamiger is a latin word meaning "the scaly one"; it's one way that Ovid refers to the Kraken in the story of Perseus and the Gorgon. read it in latin class, just always liked how it looked and sounded, except now I realize that literally no one pronounces it right the first time.
some variants I've heard people say are: squagmire, squAAH-jimer (thanks @Interjection ), and the best one I heard lately on twitch is Squish-Myer (thanks @Riotcoke)
for the record it's Squaw - mee - gur

My in game name is King_Pipe.
It's because my real name is Felipe and in Spanish "Pipe" is the nickname of Felipe. I haven't ever been the most creative person, so when I created the account at age 13 I thought it was a great idea. Couple of months later I realized what pipe means in english. Now I have a funny nickname.

Will change my Name back to LoganAUT in Age 3 DE because thats the name i use pretty much everywhere else. Logan is the name of a band and AUT stands for Austria (yep Austria not Autism.. heard that one a few times before).. had to add something to Logan because Logan alone is always taken.

How come you chose it?Jotunir wrote:Well, since you ask, my name is inspired by norse mythology, it means copper giant in old norse.
Because of a book you read?
A movie or cartoon you watched?
You love norse mythology in general?
A family member, for some reason, used to call you "copper giant"?

Now that's a cool thread, how did I miss it?
My name was created when i needed nickname for poker site. I really love latin, and when i thought about what characteristic should a poker player have, I reminded myself a latin saying 'nemo sapiens, nisi patiens' which basically means 'isn't wise, who isn't patient'. From there I took nickname NemoSapiens - Nemo for short.
Still, 99% of people think it's about a lost fish

Yup, maybe my English translation wasn't prefect, it's closer to sth like 'nobody's wise unless he is patient'Nemo means "nobody" right ?
