Names with unique meanings?

Hello ESOC!
Does your username/nickname that you have on ESO/ESOC and stuff like that have any meanings? Please share them and tell why and how come you chose that name. I'll share mine. I adopted the name RDX from an unpopular comedy film in my country. The guy who was featured in this film as RDX is a very humorous, makes other laugh and happy forever type. His name had an expansion too, which is even more funnier. I chose this name and added underscores to the front and end to make it more stylish and trendish. I never knew it's actual meaning for 2 years, until a guy asked me, 'What does RDX mean?'
I found on Wikipedia that RDX is a chemical destructive explosive used in WW II. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RDX So whenever people ask me what does the name mean? I'll say it's Destruction.

Similarly, the name _H2O, it's very popular and nobody knows what it actually means. Ryan keeps saying that "I had this username on MSN gaming zone, I added the underscore for a clan tag" lol. Maybe he liked water, who knows?

For my knowledge, The name Garja means 'thunder' in Hindi. I don't exactly know what that means, some weird logic Roman god, perhaps. Please share your thoughts. :flowers:

by Vinyanyérë
When I was like 10 years old I was playing this old RPG called Dark Cloud, which was in retrospect rather middling. But I was playing it a bunch around the time I made my RuneScape account, so of course I called that DarkCloud712. But a year or so later AoE3 came out, and like everyone at the time I was playing a ton of RuneScape, so to make my AoE3 name I reversed DarkCloud to make duolckrad. Then I didn't play AoE3 for a few years. Then I played AoE3 again, but nobody could figure out how to spell "duolckrad" so people started calling me duck instead. Anyway, SC2 came out, and I made my name there duolckrad as well, but WhiteRa decided to get sponsored by a company called Duckload and became DuckloadRa, and so everyone thought I was a dysgraphic WhiteRa fan or something. To get around this I changed my named there to AurA for a number of reasons, which is still the name I take on SC2. After that I hopped around with usernames for a bit before picking Vinyanyérë during some time playing Heroes of the Storm, which is a very rough translation of my real name into Quenya. I kept it for ESOC.

Because Vinyanyérë is actually harder to spell than duolckrad I decided to keep going with the duck thing. But then the crooked devs told me that tagging won't work if I have un-American characters in my name so I switched to Vinyanenya, which is an even looser translation of my name into Quenya. It's only mildly easier to spell though, so duck is sufficient.

Funny username story  but tbh I think everyone knows what H2O is. I'm suprised with «Garja» because there is no j in the Italian alphabet. Thanks for sharing your knowledge ^_^
My own username doesn't have any meaning, I only wanted something funny to pronounce :hmm:

Why did you decide to use abbreviations in your name? Is your full name Youmeyou?

What does pecelot/Pezet means exactly?

I think I explained it a couple of times already. Basically they were both my school nicknames deriving from my name „Przemysław", back when I was in a primary school. Pezet is a Polish rapper about which I didn't even know then, but for some reason I decided to use it as my ESO account name in 2006 when I was creating it. pecelot, on the other hand, is a somewhat mixed version of it, for the record no one ever called me like that, but I've gotten used to it and now I always pick it when making online accounts. :chinese:

Nice thread, by the way! Your name reminds me of something sci-fi, it fits nicely with the robotic Swiss Pike you have as an avatar! :D

My username is derrived from a very special moment in my life. The one where I was born and my parents named me as such.

I've never been creative enough to have a good online alias.

Very nice, @momuuu and @pecelot I've never seen such lovely and interesting stories of how usernames originated. I thought I and my Swiss pike avatar sucked together and I was in a decision of changing it. But thanks, at least one guy likes it.

Nice thread, I'll share mine.

Way back when in primary school, the time came when I needed to choose a nickname to use in games and between friends. Most other friends used some kind of animal, so that was the logical choice for me as well. My first idea was bear and I've actually created my first ever hotmail email with bear in it. However, I quickly realized it was a bad choice, simply because the word bear is extremely hard to pronounce for Czech people and therefore it would be insane to request being called such on a regular basis.

So I pondered the question of what other cool animal to choose, one whose name would be short and easy to pronounce for Czech speakers. And that's how Eagle came to be.

But what about the second part? What the hell does "mut" even mean? :chinese:
Well, around that same time back in the day, there was this cheesy French comedy movie RRRrrrr!!!. For some reason it really caught on and basically everyone was using joke lines from the movie on every opportunity. The movie is set in 35000 BC and right in the introduction it is calmly explained that all animals live in harmony; the mammoths, horsemoths, henmoths, earthworm-moths.. I guess you might see where this is going. Literally all animals featured throughout the movie are called with the -moth suffix and have tusks like a mammoth.
Now, the next thing you need to understand is that here in the Czech Republic, pretty much all movies are broadcasted in Czech. No matter the original language, everything gets dubbed. In Czech, mammoth is translated as mamut, therefore for us Czechs, the suffix used in the movie was none other than -mut. Aaand here we go!

Bonus: I've only realized about a year ago that the name is in fact a botched combination of Czenglish, because of the dubbing. :hmm:

What a lovely thread! :flowers:

My name comes from a short story written by Stephen Baxter. A Xeelee Flower is inconspicuous, yet has the power to save humanity, which it ultimately does. It transforms energy (even destructive energy) into mass and it grows indefinitely as it receives even more energy. Pieces of it can be cut and used as invincible construction material. Fits my personality. :P

I don't know about my ESO (and since its the same here, also ESOC) - nick since I got it from a friend who apparentely stole accounts and my original accounts were banned bc he played on one of those once (same for optimus' original acocunts btw).
But I would guess it was either somebody named Jesus or he really liked Jesus (as in Jesus from Nazareth) but Jesus, Jesus1 and 2 were already taken.
Breathtaking story.

pecelot wrote:And why capital letters?

Because when I was a kid, I wanted my nickname to look all big and magnificent. :kinggreen:
All caps was the standard, along with fabulous stars on each side like ***EAGLEMUT***.
Fortunately, ESO did not allow me to use such characters in the nickname, so I was forced to go starless.

by Mitoe
When my sister first learned to speak she couldn't pronounce the "ch" or "L" sounds in Michael, so she always said Mitoe instead. My grandparents always made fun of her for it, then began calling me Mitoe as well. It kinda became a nickname of sorts, and when the first website I registered for asked for a "nickname" to use as my handle, I figured Mitoe was my nickname, and have been using it ever since.

There was a brief period of time where I also used the name Alaron instead of Mitoe (I have a 2nd account on AoE3 called Alaron_ as well). This was the name of the main character in a story I wrote while I was homeschooled through grades 6 and 7. This name was taken a lot more frequently than the name Mitoe, however, so I eventually stopped using it altogether.
