Is e-sport only for males?
Is e-sport only for males?
I quite like the concept of e-sport played on a more serious level, especially the big events played in big arenas and for big money. I mostly watch Counter Strike since that was the first game I really played.
Are there leagues or divisions for women only or where do they play? The reason I ask is because I am yet to see a female play on any of the bigger teams.

Well traditionally playing video games is a very male dominated hobby so it makes sense that esports are male dominated. The only female I can think of is scarlett who plays sc2.
Re: Is e-sport only for males?
Indeed it is a male dominated sport/hobby, but I would still expect a few female top players.

Re: Is e-sport only for males?
It's also common knowledge that men are more athletic than women, ofc this is partially due to testosterone which allows men to build much larger muscles, I wonder if on average males have faster reactions times as well, which would explain why they have more success in video games.
Re: Is e-sport only for males?
Nah, I'm pretty sure it's merely a matter of socialisation and social acceptance
Re: Is e-sport only for males?
It wouldn't really make sense to have a women only division even if it wasn't male-dominated. During the game you don't see the players themselves so you achieve nothing other than reduced level of play. You have to ask yourself why exactly we have women-only divisions in certain sports—such as fighting—and then reflect over whether there are similar (or completely different for that matter) reasons to have women-only divisions in e-sports.
Chess has a women-only division and as far as I am aware nobody gives a fuck about it, while Ronda Rousey was the most successful UFC-fighter at one point.

Pay more attention to detail.

Partially, but not merely, given IQ distribution, AFAIK.jesus3 wrote:Nah, I'm pretty sure it's merely a matter of socialisation and social acceptance
The answer is no, but it is unlikely that many women could ever compete with men at an elite level.

But there are tons of females who play video games just as much as males, yet at the csgo major there are 24 teams x 6 per team (5 players 1 coach) which is 144 players and not a single female.
Re: Is e-sport only for males?
It's probably because, on average, males score better than females in tests of mental rotation in 3D environments
Eg:

Most likely, the brain differences are activated by hormones when puberty hits, so they're not as obvious or significant before puberty.

It's about the extremes rather than the average; this is professional gaming, not amateur hour.Dolan wrote:It's probably because, on average, males score better than females in tests of mental rotation in 3D environments

That is true, but the reasons for it are different between physical sports and intellectual sports.pecelot wrote:men do better in sports in general

It's because playing a silly game professionally is something only a man would do. Women have far more important things to do with their time like keeping society running smoothly. Men play professional e-sports because they are the more child-like sex, which is why they are better suited for the role of child rearing, while the women are better suited to the roles of labour and financial management.

It depends on how far deep you go digging for "the reasons".zoom wrote:That is true, but the reasons for it are different between physical sports and intellectual sports.pecelot wrote:men do better in sports in general

This will be a wholesome thread I can already tell.

I guess when you're used to chicks with dicks you would think she wasn't a real female.

Yeah, but those sex differences which are based in hormones probably play a role even at the extremes. Ie, even the most talented gaming females are still probably less competitive than the most talented gaming males.
Also, grills probably realise early on that there's no point in trying to compete in a field for which they don't have mental/physical advantages (ie, the stuff I pointed to by quoting those pieces of research).
It's not just about gaming, there are other such fields and jobs. I haven't seen any female mechanic, for example, though I'm sure there must be some, it just doesn't seem like an interesting job for them.

Re: Is e-sport only for males?
There actually are female only tournaments in CS:GO from time to time while there are no tourneys for males only.
Also whenever the best female teams play against Tier2/3 male teams the results are still incredibly one-sided. A few examples:
https://www.hltv.org/matches/2302516/al ... -kinguin-3
https://www.hltv.org/matches/2303341/tr ... nger-cup-2
https://www.hltv.org/matches/2303532/se ... gg-masters
I am not exactly sure what the reasons are though.
