If I were to take a plane over there to Amsterdam or Cologne, it would cost me the price of a plane ticket. So I think in suggesting those places your not really factoring in the cost.

I mean there are certainly arguments that New York is the cultural center of the world. It's among the top that's for sure.

Technically UN is not located in NYC, in theory at-least UN is independent of US Laws. UN is more or less like Vatican City. Besides, UN has 3 more HQ's around the world, many major branches of UN are not even located in NYC HQ.

EU people are simply much more concentrated, so the total travel cost across all participants would be much lower.

Besides multiple members living there, it's the train capital of the US and pretty centralized. Much cheaper than flying.
