Re: #ModTheEar
I will respond to some more specific points in this thread later when I get a chance.
However I would like to add one thing: the people who think I would be a terrible mod don't seem to think that position through. Do you really think I would go on a spree of locking threads and unilaterally banning people? If I did I would instantly get removed.
And to your point @XeeleeFlower I do apologize, I was being cheeky and don't actually have anything against any of the active comm team members. My point was more that I know it takes time from everybody and I hear that sentiment a lot. I already spend a lot of time on the forums and would be able to ease that burden if I were a mod.

No. "Active" was the other stipulation. You're a self-professed lurker.XeeleeFlower wrote:Am I not relatable because I'm a grill?deleted_user wrote:What I will say is the current mods lack an active and relatable voice in the off topic section (that place that needs moderated the most).

Re: #ModTheEar
Yes, I should give credit where it is due that the current mod team is certainly much better than some past teams. Ashvin saying that nobody was corrupt in previous times is ridiculous though. The beef we have with select characters on this forum stems from incidents where they sought/enacted disciplinary action against us for the crime of making posts they simply didnât find interesting. Theyâd then label the posts âtroll postsâ and try to get us banned.

I have to agree with everything said here. I think the Mod team is going in a great direction and I think Modding the ear would only continue this. Long live esoc!

If I were made a mod I would consider racial slurs worse than bumping threads.

Re: #ModTheEar
All of these years... I've thought the battle was Ear's to win -- that he needed to be good enough for ESOC -- he needed to somehow be better, because there is some perceived imbalance of power always between a man and his station, the station having an ordained title greater than man, ergo the man is necessarily needing to become something he cannot. The Station as holy. The man as supposed to be more than man. The candidates becoming uncanny monsters. A man becomes Moderator, rather than the moderator being a mere Man.
And so it's too easy and improper to always treat Positions in power with infallible reverence, and to always demand of the men vying for them conformity with the pre-conceived ideas of what that Station-as-man should be. A very significant factor in this attitude is (perhaps by natural, historical consequence) established and perpetuated by those already in stations of power, who do not wish for their power to be much interrupted.
Wisdom is not a thing bestowed, but discovered. And I've finally stumbled upon this little truth: that ESOC does not deserve to Mod The Ear. Nathan isn't just promoting himself; he is begging the crooked administration see itself and right itself, such that they may be good without becoming unbearing. Mod The Ear is as much an individual campaign as it is a decry against the very institution that won't accept him. A good thing on top of a bad thing is not that good and liable to tip. And a thing just set on top is not likely to influence what it is set upon unless it is really great.
We are also way too connected at way too great of a distance for our own good.
