What bait? When I fish for trout near my home, its in small lakes where they are introduced and not naturally spawning. They seem to only hit on Butter Worms left on a deadstick in 30+ feet of water. I can watch hundreds swim in the shallows and spend hours casting everything at them, but they will not eat in the shallows. Also the Trout I catch are rainbow and about 1/3 the size of the beast you caught. I am jealous of you now.

That’s interesting to hear, have you tried in the last two hours of daylight? The fish really come on the feed in the shallows at that time of day in my experience, even though you can see them in the same areas during the day they don’t feed. Although the light looks deceiving in my photo, the sun was not far from setting.

I failed to mention, that I cannot catch them at all in warmer months. The only time I can get them to bit is ice fishing for them. I love crankbaits in general, as Bass are my primary target. Just Trout up here are very difficult to land. For sure fishing at sunrise and set are optimal. Even ice fishing the same applies.

Nice!! I’m from Michigan but go to school in Iowa. With that being said, I miss my Michigan/Great Lakes bass fishing. We used to catch some nice whoppers like this one
