I don't think we are big enough to be banning people left and right. We never were.

We're also too small to survive without the influx of new members. But just looking at the average responses in this thread should make you wonder why new members would stay on this site.

What's wrong with the responses in this thread?

If you banned all who troll and shit post from time to time you would lose many quality posts as well, since many people do both. Question is also what you consider troll/shit posting, others may not share your definition or your view on specific posts. What someone find amusing and a good meme/joke/anecdote, others might find totally irrelevant and a clear shit-post. From the little I read on the forums ESOC have a good balance between confronting trolls and letting some pass. Sure, I find it annoying sometimes with all the troll posts, only what I think is a troll posts, others might find a funny joke and vice versa. It's also the case that it's not rare that people who I’ve just seen shit-posting is posting some qualitative posts in another thread.

ESOC – No moderation in moderating.

That's of course assuming stricter moderation wouldn't make people stop the shit-posting and keep up the qualitative posts though. Generally I think competent moderation can make people refrain from shitposting.

You are probably right.
Pay more attention to detail.

I just read the latest news post where the majority of comments were off topic/trolling nonsense and I couldn't help but wonder what would have happened to ESOC if moderation had been stricter and notorious trolls (like for example the basement and other shitposters) were actually moderated. What would ESOC be like then? Would that have had any effect in the long term? Would there be more strategy/aoe3 related discussions here? Would people be more respectful towards eachother? Or would it just have killed the community or killed off topic? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
1. The basement are not trolls
2. You had the chance to change things when you were moderator - why didn't you?

I did try at least. But I got undermined by other staff members. It's irrelevant to this topic anyways, isn't it?

Re: Would ESOC have been better off if they banned the trolls?
Usually troll-comments are totally obvious or subtle, then you think it's ok first and a few weeks later you see the same comment in a different thread. After a while you just don't take a few people serious anymore. (reason: 10% nugget, 10% good or sarcastic joke, 80% ain't nobody got time for that). It's hard to moderate in certain threads, it would be better just to delete them *to have stricter moderation rules, if you care about quality content in discussions. (in pure troll threads it doesn't matter). My interest in reading/activity certainly drops significantly, when it's too much. Idk how this is affecting new members. I think some people only stay for 1-3 questions then they leave forever. (some of them i think are trollaccounts and they write a question and never log in again?)

i know atleast half a dozen guys who joined esoc and were pretty annoyed about the shitpost culture here. it was the reason for me aswell to stay more in the background.

Re: Would ESOC have been better off if they banned the trolls?
Solution: keep shitposting in off topic. If people want to have serious AoE discussions they can do it in the AoE section. If people want to shitpost, well, let them do it, but out of sight of the people who don't want to see it.

We have a saying in Norway, that you should not trow stone when you live in a glass house!! I have seen tons of shit post from you, recently. Could be mistaken though, if that was your honest opinions (you are not shining white eigher Momuuuuu, neighter am I )
Anyways, I would be glad if shitpost where rekt, as soon as they show their ugly face. We would all benefit from that

In this case I think I am mostly "shining white" (did you know this is not an English saying). I rarely shitpost; the majority of my posts are on topic discussions where I provide serious content/arguments.

Don't forget the posts where you attack basement content and the people making it possible

Re: Would ESOC have been better off if they banned the trolls?
I dont think esoc would had been better off if they banned trolls, cant really afford to ban people in a community as small as this, although its a shame because sometimes the trolling gets really irritating to deal with (like basement, Gendarme), but i chose to ignore it and i think mods are doing a decent job now dealing with excessive trolls and shit-posters.
Re: Would ESOC have been better off if they banned the trolls?
I considere this topic as a shitpost tbh, like most of the off topic discutions. It polutes my activ threads flux with bullshit discutions.
Btw it's funny that someone who did twice as many post as anyone else without ever talking about aoe complains about shitpost.
