I studied psychology and partially agree with diarouga. People are more strongly influenced by a perceived social landscape of "everyone" hating them, and so a perceived implication that there is some objective evaluation of them going on, than by a single person behaving in a socially unstandard, extreme way, and conveying a subjective judgement. [unless it has the marks of:
1. being really persistent,
2. coupled with real life bullying, and / or
3. coming from a person who means a lot to the victim, like a parent, friend, or partner,
like in the criminal case mentioned earlier in the thread].

A depressed person's ponderings of a suicide attempt are usually specifically related to something in their private life, and narrow minded. An unrelated signal is rather unlikely to trigger, although that is of course possible as well, in the worst cases.

That being said, I have never told anyone to "go kill themselves", because just like with most other insults I find such message rather bizarre and pointless when it's not literal, and incomprehensibly malevolent when it is.

Worth noting the same insults/bullying are going to effect everyone differently. While one "mundane" comment might wash over most people it could really connect with someone in an unexpected way due to their personal background and context. A lot of definitive statements here!

Safest rule is just to be nice.

Not always easy as most people here will know first hand aoe3 is an aggravating game! I got back into it recently due to the off-season at work and notice if I do 20+ games a week then it can get to me. Going to head back to my usual level of 0-5 games to restore calmness.
