You can play with fast time controls but it's pretty obvious the game is not meant to be played that way. Chess I think works much better with fast time controls because it's more flashy and a game ends after ~60 moves instead of ~200.iNcog wrote:is there a bullet version of go?Goodspeed wrote:Ego postaaryngend wrote:*thinks to himself* shall I enter this and gg ez everybody? or nah
I only play bullet chess because time is so short and I like how short matches are
I think you could reasonably play "bullet" Go on 9x9 boards but it wouldn't be Go anymore. Most of the strategy would be taken out and it would just become a very Chess-like "find the best sequence and hope I don't miss anything" kind of game.
That said, there are people on one of the Go servers I use with like 100k+ games played (including on my level, inexplicably) which you could realistically only get to if you played (very) fast time controls. So some do enjoy it.
Re: Chess tourney, second edition!
Youre about 24 years too old to become a prodigy and future world champion. As a recreational game, theres no wrong age to learn chess, but its probably easier the younger you are (28 being still pretty young).
My Lichess is Scroogie
Might be actually an idea to compile a list of ESOC people's chess profiles for easy play and connection.

Anyone else go beurgh (not sure how to spell it but it's a word in French) when they saw 3+2? I make a point of only playing 15 minutes or more with time increment. I feel like I win or lose games from out thinking my opponent then, rather than quickly recognising tactics or games decided by hastily played blunders.

I lose so many pieces for free and trade poorly a lot. this situation didn't happen but was a fork of one my games.
@Scroogie ahhh, I see it now. thank you! cheers

Rapid is also my time control of choice. But ngl, even then most of my games are still decided by tactical blunders.chris1089 wrote:Anyone else go beurgh (not sure how to spell it but it's a word in French) when they saw 3+2? I used to have this interesting progression of time control preference. Me playing Chess always came in phases, and at the start of each phase I always played rapid time controls. Then at some point I find myself preferring blitz, and not long after I'm playing only bullet. Not long after that is the end of the Chess phase, where I drop it and start the cycle again a year or two later.
It got to the point where, if I was playing Chess, me starting to prefer faster time controls was a fail-proof predictor for me stopping to play Chess somewhere in the next month orso. Knowing that, I would just stop playing then and there. "Oh I don't want to play rapid anymore, I guess that means I'm bored of the game, alt f4"
Re: Chess tourney, second edition!
I play only 3+2 basically, can rarely get myself to play longer timecontrols.
I think mostly because i then go deep into the position but end up completely misanalyzing and losing the game anyways to tactical blunders. Or at some point i get tired of analyzing and blunder or move too fast.

When I play online I can't concentrate on longer time controls.
ESOC : came for the game, stayed for the drama.
Re: Chess tourney, second edition!
I can, but if I try to play more than 2 or 3 games I get bored of analysing and just blunder instead. Conversely I never find good strategical ideas on short time controls.
Re: Chess tourney, second edition!
You get good strategic ideas from spamming the London System like you would the Huss Semi.

I play c4 (mainly because I didn't want to memorise lots of theory)

Play the Caro-Kann. No theory, only strategy.
