Time is wise and our wounds seem to heal to the rhythm of aging,
But our past is a ghost fading out that at night it’s still haunting.

Re: Posts and likes
I check the number of likes to determine if a post is worth reading.

What's your criteria for this? Never read if under 1 like? Skim if under 5 likes? Read if under 10 likes? Voraciously devour and savor each word if over 15 likes?Mr_Bramboy wrote:I check the number of likes to determine if a post is worth reading.

Re: Posts and likes
I'll definitely look if the post is about balance or political, but if it is the memes thread then no.

Re: Posts and likes
If the post has a very large number of likes, it's not interesting to see who liked it.
If there are few and it's an opinion that is particularly loaded, then it might be interesting to see who agreed with it so much as to like it.
But then, the number of likes is not a great measure of the quality of a post. So checking who liked a low-quality post is a waste of time.

Re: Posts and likes
I get an unhealthy amount of satisfaction out of people liking my Go posts. It makes me feel like there's hope for humanity. It's the one redeeming quality of the like feature, which I otherwise dislike and don't use.

Could rank people online for their average number of likes per own subject thread posted, would be only slightly interesting to see

Yup same, also I can silently judge peopleiNcog wrote:Depends on whether or not I agree or disagree with post. Then I can add people to my shit list.
I like to see who liked my liked-a-lot posts and sometimes if someone I like likes my post then I have an idea that I wasn't a shit-head for that particular post. doesn't happen often, but it does now and then

One of the funniest situations is when someone likes your post because they misunderstood it.

Re: Posts and likes
I don't always agree with posts I "like". Sometimes I'll like a post simply because I enjoy the discussion and appreciate the time someone took to expound upon their thoughts. I'll also utilize the like feature as a "hug". Does anyone else do this?Dolan wrote:If the post has a very large number of likes, it's not interesting to see who liked it.

I always check who liked my posts, and who liked the posts of people disagreeing with me.

@XeeleeFlower
Yeah, well you could use the like function in many ways, like for thanking someone for putting in the effort to explain something, or because you found out something new, even though you might not agree with the thrust of their argument.
Sometimes I like a post just because it's funny or has a funny attitude, or it's good quality b8.
I think I rarely like a post because I agree with someone.
Otherwise, I use the like function very sparingly. Just like Goodspeed, I was against it, back when I was one of the site admins, because most of us agreed this would lead to like-whoring. And we were right to refuse implementing it back then, but I guess this makes posters happy.

Re: Posts and likes
Like whoring isn't bad if it means people try to go for quality posts. In a thread like the ESOC memes, it may be an incentive to post more because you get more feedback on what people like. At least it's not as bad as being able to both like & dislike, where controversial opinions get downvoted into oblivion so the forums become a giant echo chamber.

Re: Posts and likes
I ALWAYS check who like my posts, but rarely check who liked other posts. True sign of a narcissist.
I also get a small rush if my post is liked by a "rare liker"
I just recently received a rare GUA like.

Some people would have very high like counts on average, like cometK, due to their infrequency of normal posts.I_HaRRiiSoN_I wrote:Could rank people online for their average number of likes per own subject thread posted, would be only slightly interesting to see

I always like my own posts to give them a good start in the competitive liking scene.
