Ninja and shroud were bought out of their contacts for like 30 million and are now free agents.

It was unfortunate but I had expected this since day 1. Mixer lacked some serious quality of life features, which should be pretty basic at this point. Secondly their user interface wasn't exactly friendly and initiative. They expected to bring twitch audience to their platform, in such case your UI should feel refreshing but also at home. The blue theme might have been deal breaker for many. It was never a real competition to twitch.
Fine line to something great is a strange change.

Nah only Ninja made that much. Shroud made like 10M off of that. So not both.
Mixer was pretty stupid thinking that just throwing money at these nerds will make their platform grow.

Richard Lewis confirmed they got paid.

Twitch is just far above mixer and facebook gaming, and even youtube gaming to some extent, in terms of having a good stable platform with useful and easily usable features.

Unfortunate that it is shutting down because a lack of competition is never good for consumers but god damn Mixer was dog shit. Vods were terrible, live streams always stuttered for no reason, mobile was horrendous, terrible chat. So much money behind them and it felt like the clunkiest website I've seen. Would've been right at home in 2007 but way behind for 2020.

That's not the point, was just making sure the listed figures are correct. People overrate the value of streamers and youtubers anyway.
I'd like to know how many of those donations are secretly done by their own sponsors to make them appear more baller.
A friend of mine makes a couple of grand a month by streaming on Twitch and even she cannot grasp why people would do that.

What? Are you confused? Microsoft (like the company) paid them that money. Contractually. There's not much to argue about lol.

I wasn't talking about the streaming contract payments, I know those are crystalclear, I was talking about the everyday subscription gifts and regular donations.

You think people that donate and sub are sponsors who are trying to make the streamer look bigger than they are? I'm genuinely confused if that is your argument or if I'm completely misunderstanding.

You are 100% correct. That is my argument :kinggreen:
Not all of them of course, but a good amount are fake donations and subscriptions, is my educated guess.

I don't see the incentive for companies to dump money into Amazon's pockets via subs, it seems easier to just pay people to boost viewers.

Buying viewers/listeners appears to be bigger than I thought. It's also done to boost musician's Spotify listens to get into certain playlists and thus multiply the audience again

Lolz, so many things in this world are illegal, yet they are done :P
I mean, things like that are so easy to hide. On another note, don't forget the whole esports betting scandals or the cs:go gambling one where the owner's of the site tricked people into thinking they play on external sites, yet it was their own with them being the co-owner and having fixed results. Tmartn or Phantomlord come to mind.

This guy gets it. Since you are german I'm sure you heard about the "Kai incident", where someone called guy claims to have boosted many no-name musicians into the spotify charts.

@aaryngend

Yeah, although that pretty much only confirmed what everyone suspected already ... through some "fortunate" accident. While I don't know if huge companies also use those practices, I can totally imagine it just being the standard procedure for many platforms

Where do you guys think Ninja will go? Most likely either twitch or youtube ofc. I could see him going to youtube, since he had a bit of a bad fall out with twitch and his friend courage is at youtube. But I think he will most likely go to twitch, patch things up with them and head back to twitch.
