In NL, no. But Ive read that for example some left extremists in Germany are acting in a pro-Russia way. Although that might be partially due to some extreme pacifist conviction.

Re: European politics
The leftists and rightists in Germany are putting nationalism and socialism back together. And it's actually starting at the fringes of the center-right and center-left parties already. E.g. Saxony is governed by a CDU prime minister who already talks about rebuilding NordStream 1 for future business after the war. And the more leftist parts of SPD are those who still struggle with weapon deliveries to Ukraine.

Mélenchon in France is literally Putin's cock holster though. Hilariously, so is Le Pen. Both of our extremist parties are pro Russia afaik.
However to be clear, Mélenchon's own remarks are directly anti-Ukraine and supportive of Russia's ambitions.
Re: European politics
Frankly, after looking at the GOP in America, it seems to me that Russia has been running highly, highly successful anti-democracy campaigns in most occidental countries. They influenced the American election in 2016. It's no secret that most of Europe's extremist parties have ties to Russia and Putin. He finances them and gives them a platform to run on. It's actually fairly impressive. Had Trump been re-elected in 2020, I actually think Ukraine would have been annexed by now. And yeah this is a thread regarding European politics but it seems that American elections have repercussions in Europe, lul.

"Fascist" Meloni defending Ukraine in the Italian parliament against lawmakers who think Italy shouldn't continue helping Ukraine.
Not even fascists are what they used to be..
Italy's Meloni ready to risk unpopularity over support for Ukraine
A poll published in late February by daily Corriere della Sera showed some 45% of Italians were against sending weapons to Ukraine, against 34% in favour. Some 21% of those polled did not reply to the question.
Not even fascists are what they used to be..

Re: European politics
Why do you think invasion would have even occurred in the first place had Trump been reelected? Russian military buildup exclusively began after Biden came to power. While the truth may take a long time to come out there is also another angle here. Biden family had significant dealings and vested interests in Ukraine before the war broke out. Ukraine may have had some leverage over Biden which may have resulted in certain security assurances and/or things like accelerated NATO/EU membership. Ultimately it may have been enough to spook Russia and the war followed. It's a possibility.iNcog wrote: ↑26 Mar 2023, 17:19Frankly, after looking at the GOP in America, it seems to me that Russia has been running highly, highly successful anti-democracy campaigns in most occidental countries. I'm not from Europe, but in my country people are always talking about influence from other countries to justify the events that happens over here as well.
But I honestly feel that the influence from foreign countries are very minimal and people just seem to exaggerate a fucking ton the effects that those external influence have.
Seems like some form of scapegoat really. Something to blame on instead of facing our weird nature.

One ad promoted an anti-Islam rally, while another ad promoted a pro-Islam protest in the same place. Divide and conquer.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia-socialmedia-idUKKBN1D15GUU.S. lawmakers released a batch of Russian-bought Facebook Inc ads on Wednesday that showcased politically charged content allegedly spread on social media by Moscow ahead of the 2016 U.S. election.
Some of the ads criticized candidates, while others sought to organize or promote simultaneous rallies for opposite sides of divisive issues. The sample posted on a House committee website pulled from the roughly 3,000 ads Facebook provided to congressional investigators last month.
Some of the ads sampled specifically dealt with the U.S. election and were critical of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. One from an account called “Army of Jesus” said Clinton was supported by evil forces.
“Hillary is a Satan, and her crimes and lies had proved just how evil she is,” the post read. It added that Republican candidate Donald Trump was “an honest man” who “cares deeply for this country.”
One ad from a group calling itself “Heart of Texas” promoted a rally in Houston on May 21, 2016 to “Stop Islamization” in the U.S. state. Another ad from a separate Facebook page promoted a pro-Islam rally at the same time and venue.

A few years ago, the Dutch caught a bunch of Russian GRU operatives trying to hack into the chemical weapons watchdog's headquarters in The Hague:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/oct/04/visual-guide-how-dutch-intelligence-thwarted-a-russian-hacking-operation
And many many other such incidents, like the one when they poisoned the Skripals in the UK, when some random Brit died because she found a chemical weapon bottle discarded by the Russian agents who used it in the poisoning plot, etc.

I know there are some level of external influence from other countries. Like now, after US threatened to ban tiktok in my country there were so much stuff that were clearly anti-US propaganda on the social medias. (That amount of stuff that popped on a single day is waaaaay abnormal to be a natural commotion)Dolan wrote: ↑31 Mar 2023, 09:38It is an established fact now that Russia paid for ads on Facebook that encouraged protests on divisive issues in the USA.

My question is how much of that has real impact or is just amplified to be used as scapegoat instead of us facing our own weird nature? I think there is a lot of the second.

Re: European politics
I don't think Russia's machinations were the main driver behind Trump's election, they probably acted more like adding fuel to fire rather than completely overturning the expected result. But it wasn't insignificant either. Russia keeps doing stuff like that out of habit. They've been doing sabotage and division-sowing actions in other countries for decades. I guess they want to feel like they're a world player but they lack the means to be an actual world player. So they resort to sneakily inserting sticks in other nations' bike wheels. But maybe in some situations that were on the edge, like Brexit, that extra Russian nudge is what pushed it over the line.a forum ghost wrote: ↑03 Apr 2023, 09:12My question is how much of that has real impact or is just amplified to be used as scapegoat instead of us facing our own weird nature?
