Because it seems promising long(er) term. I don't plan on daytrading, just on riding the crypto hype for a while. Might get some ltc and ripple too. It's likely BTC profits will be reinvested into those. We're already seeing that today

To be fair, you need a relatively high IQ to understand cryptocurrencies.

Yesterday there were more than 100,000 Bitcoins traded on Coinbase. Won't even reach half of that today. When I jumped on the Bitcoin train the trade volume there was around 20,000 per day.

A few other exchanges has taken some of that volume.
Coinmarketcap list this: http://prntscr.com/hl62y3

After giving my woman what she needs, this: http://prntscr.com/hl63bk

I can't remember, what the volume was yesterday.

It had an insane peak yesterday and the day before. It seems to be on its way down now. I've been monitoring live Coinbase transactions for several hours per day—but yes, I am basing this largely on the assumption that Coinbase has kept its market share.

I checked 30 minutes ago (already forgot which site) but a few other exchanges have picked up a little more volume.
But overall it does seem like the volume is going down a little. Maybe using the 7th and 8th as benchmark screw things up. Especially the 7th was crazy.

BTC is up by 1ish% over the last 24 hours, I ASSume that in general means increased demand.

BTC feels like it's on its last breath.
I got ETH and Ripple and now fucking LTC decides to jump 50% in 2 days. Might buy some of that after a correction.
I would've got some IOTA too @Snuden but it seems this is only possible on Bitfinex, and their account verification is an insane hassle. They take 10+ days and don't accept bank statements as proof of residence and I don't have anything else.

I have same issue with IOTA at Bitfinex. I dont understand, why it is not traded on other exchanges.
If you feel adventures (and if @XeeleeFlower allow) you should look into NEM (XEM) It is traded on all bigger exchanges.

I haven't bought any myself, but it's on my watch list.

@Gendarme Point of rebuying at 17200 is that IF it reaches that price, it's past the point of resistance. At that point the sky's the limit again.

Speculating here, obviously, but it feels like it's running out of buyers. Almost everyone seems to agree it got out of hand. People are likely to cash out and reinvest into altcoins as they notice their price going up and BTC slowly dropping.

What's different about NEM?

IOTA does indeed seem promising from what I read. And it's probably a good thing that it's not traded on a lot of platforms (yet?) because it means a lot of people who want to buy it can't, and when they do get the opportunity the price will jump up.
Maybe I'll get some other crypto somewhere else and transfer it to a Bitfinex account, then use that to buy IOTA. They don't have the same requirements then, right?

I don't know much about NEW as a project, but it's listed at #10 on coinmarketcap.
Besides, it's trading for less than $0.50 a coin.

I guess you can transfer other crypto to Bitfinex, but God only knows how hard it will be to withdraw the coins.
Bittrex are similar idiots, also requiring all kinds of crap, when you want to cash out.

@Goodspeed It went way past $17,200 during that period of craziness.

Anyway, it's finally going down. I'm moderately surprised it took so long and that it didn't go down rapidly, but I suppose this is fine as well. :chinese:

Now please Allah don't let it recover until Monday!

It didn't go past 17200. Maybe on your exchange

On Coinbase it peaked at $19,700, albeit for less than a second, haha. It also oscillated between $18,000 and $16,000 for quite some time, IIRC. I think Coinbased disabled its API during that time because it was under heavy load. That's probably why these third party websites that calculate the price of Bitcoin didn't show it.

Hmm... don't these futures allow the people who have been holding insane amounts of Bitcoins all these years to dump them all without heavy losses?

You mean insane enough to actually have a substantial effect on the price? Sure, but people who have that much won't want to sell I don't think. BTC is still on its way up long term.
Did you rebuy yet?
I'm still sitting here regretting I didn't get into LTC. But who saw that coming?

Bitcoin transactions getting too expensive and time-consuming. People buy it ONLY for "investing" reason. And is wasting electrity for pixel money really sustainable development?

Every generation has to experience the bubble atleast once in lifetime, I guess.
