jesus3 wrote:@j_t_kirk Agree on that but there will be a problem on the left back position if Hector doesn't get back on the pitch soon and gets practice

Hector gets beaten by Achilles in the end anyway so...

lol Jesus Argentina was in the WC 2014 finals and last two Copa America finals, losing both on penalties, I wouldn't call that trash by any means

Not saying they're trash, did you see them play though? It's confusing. All those world class players didn't harmonize at all and in the end it was Messi or Aguero just scoring one goal more than the other team bc of individual actions

Yeah France got strong players, but it is a team game. As mentionned above, Germany and Brazil are the favorites too. Don't forget Spain guys, although they haven't performed well recently, they are still really really strong.

well yeah it lures out nationalism and dumb drunk people in general and combines both. In that sense you might be right, I also hate the collective mob mentality of those events but like the sport itself

jesus3 wrote:Imo the top favorites for the title are Germany (since they're the current champions), France, Spain and due to recent performances and the big name also Brazil. Apart from many quality teams close behind those three (four) there are also many dark horses.
One of those is Nigeria, if they kick off well they can have a deep run.
Since Argentina has played like crap for the last four to eight years and barely made it into the WC, I say Argentina will be the biggest loser, losing to Nigeria and Croatia, drawing Iceland and going home on last place of their group.

As a personal preference I would like England and Belgium to finally show their individual quality consistently over a world cup - they're like the all time second row favorites

why u completly ignore portugal? other than that i agree except that france has to be the big favorite on paper

I excluded Portugal since their Euro title strikes quite the similarity with Greeces win in 2004. The team played complete garbitch and somehow snuck through until the title. To me, Portugal has awesome and talented Midfielders and Strikers but lacks a proper Defense as Pepe and those other guys like Bruno Alves (I think?) don't get younger. They're in a similar situation as Argentina but defensively a little worse, one star player, great individual players but don't really mash well together
