It's interesting how both my republican and democrat friends are both saying "It's not exactly what I wanted, but I'm satisfied." I don't think I've ever seen an election where everyone is content by the results.

Overall, the election results seem to be a modest success of the democrats. My thoughts:

• They won the house, which is not necessarily guaranteed given how polarized the country is and how ineffective/inconsistent the democratic election campaign seems to have been.
• They lost seats in the senate, which was to be expected. The senator cohort which was up for election consisted of a large number of democrats and it would have been quite a tough job to even defend all of these positions.
• No changes in quantity of governors.

Democrats largely had a great night.

They won the house with a pretty large number and more importantly a large popular vote margin (+9), this is a wave regardless of what people say in the MSM.
Senate is still too undecided because of Arizona and Florida to make a solid call, but considering the map they never had a chance. If they hold in either Florida or Arizona somehow, the 2020 senate map becomes very favorable for them.
They cleaned up BIG TIME in Governor's races. They re-established dominance in the midwest flipping Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois in addition to easily holding in Pennsylvania and Minnesota. This bodes very well for 2020 and beyond because they hold veto power on redstricting. Also they flipped Kansas, Nevada, Maine and New Mexico.
A ton of progressive ballot proposals passed even in the reddest states and many pro-voting rights proposals passed.

I mean it was a good night for the Democrats, I just got my hopes up for more because I hate myself and am always working to make myself feel disappointed.

Taking back the House is huge, we can now block any shitty Republican legislation, and we can finally start to investigate the crimes the executive branch committed and continues to commit that the Republican party is totally complicit in. Also the ballot measures passed are huge; restoring voting rights to felons in Florida might make the difference in who wins the White House in 2020.

Also our success in PA/WI/MI, the states that gave the election to Trump, bodes very well for our chances next election as well.

@fightinfrenchman I am sorry 2. that the Dems lost seats in the house. But did you take a look at who they lost? they lost 3 dems who where voting on the republicans most damaging bills, almost every time. Can you blame the voters? not to come out and support them.

If you are upset that those Dems voted with Republicans "almost every time" (not true), you're gonna be really upset to find out that the Republicans replacing them will vote with Republicans literally every time.
