Anyone live in England that can look into ticket prices for me? That is one of the bigger concerns about making the trip

Thinking of flying into either London or Amsterdam, then trying to hit Paris, Brussles, London, and Amsterdam throughout the trip.
Are these all fun places to visit?
Is the train a good way to go?
Is it expensive?
Is this too much for a Thusday departure from Chicago, to return the next Sunday?

It being too much is definitely a subjective opinion. :P If you plan things out and have a good schedule, you can hopefully maximize your time in each place. It's going to be an expensive trip regardless, but hopefully we can bring the costs down a bit. The train is more expensive than flying and takes longer, in most cases. It is nice to watch the countryside zoom by while on a train though. I haven't been to Brussels, London, or Paris yet so I don't know if they're fun places to visit.

I like to plan things so apologies for trying to plan out your visit. Revised schedule since you're wanting to fly out on a Thursday and leave on a Sunday:

One way tickets for 2 from Chicago to London. Spend some time in London, then go to the game on the 28th. airbnb link for places near the stadium
On the 29th, Fly from London to Paris. Paris airbnb
On the 31st, take a bus or train to Brussels. The train is faster, but the bus is much cheaper. The train schedule isn't updated for that far in advance so I just used next Wednesday's date to get an idea of how much it would cost on a Wednesday. airbnb Brussles
On November 2nd, come to Amsterdam from Brussels. We should be in our new house by then so you can stay with us. Explore the area Friday and Saturday.
Then go home from Amsterdam November 4th, which is a Sunday.

Travel costs for 2 people, excluding accommodations, end up being €819.

imo it's too much, but i prefer taking my time for a place. I think a big city requires atleast 2-3 days to fully enjoy it unless you wanna rush it.

Xeelees way you're gonna spend 1000 dollars on travelling, getting annoyed by delays and being on the road (which is amazing, but not if you are rushed) especially if you're not used to it. I'd stay in one place, take half of that money (if you have it to spend) and do something unforgettable.

Yeah, personally, I also would rather spend 10 days in 1 or 2 places. I like being able to just relax on some days, but also do stuff on other days. For us Americans though, coming across the ocean is a pretty big trip so people often want to maximize their sightseeing.

@SoldieR Do note that the jet lag may fuck you up for a couple of days so just keep that in mind.

Reviving this because its finally happening. I've purchased plane tickets to fly into LHR September 28 and return home October 7.

Starting in London for a day or two, then looking at a Paris stay for a few days, Amsterdam for a few, then back to London for the weekend and to watch the NFL game at Tottenham stadium.

Are trains really $100 one way to Paris? Anyone take trains regularly have some advice? Thanks.

It might be cheaper to fly instead of the taking the train honestly. See how much it is to fly from somewhere like Gatwick

You don't have to get trapped if you visit a city like paris if you know where to go. And it's not necessarily expensive in some areas.
Actually just walking in the streets and looking at monuments is free.

Amsterdam is a tourist trap. Building that city was a mistake. Do not come within 5km of Amsterdam. I hate tourists with a passion.

@SoldieR Are you trying to visit us while you're in Amsterdam? Did you want to stay with us?

Train travel cost and times:
London to Paris - direct route
Paris to Amsterdam - direct route
Amsterdam to London - You have to switch trains

Alternatively:
London to Amsterdam - direct route
Amsterdam to Paris - direct route
Paris to London - direct route

Train travel isn't exactly cheap. You could fly to your destinations, but then time is wasted in the airport. It is less expensive to go that route though as you can see here:
London to Paris
Paris to Amsterdam
Amsterdam to London

You could take the train from London to Paris, then another train from Paris to Amsterdam, and fly from Amsterdam to London. The train from Amsterdam to London takes approximately 5-6 hours so flying would actually maximize your time in addition to being more cost effective.

Also just to tag on to this, trains in the UK are incredibly expensive, even within london a day pass is relatively expensive compared to the rest of europe, like £100 for two days. However if you go for the off peak pass, which is travel after 9:30 am, you end up saving £30 a day with the pass only being £18.90.

Because paris is a more common route, as it's a business route, as compared to amsterdam which is just for people who want drugs.

@Mr_Bramboy
Though ideally a common route should be cheaper than less common route xd

It's true though, you go to The Hague if you're doing anything business related normally.

Yeah train prices were fucking ridiculous. And your ticket will always be checked because everything's run by a private company. With more than 2 or 3 people (maybe even just 2) I'm pretty sure it's cheaper to get a taxi even going inter-city.
Tube prices were okay but still easily like double you'd pay here.
