The team played so poorly, despite actually having very decent players. Somehow the coach ignored many of the great players though, and then ordered his team to just pass the ball to messi and then hope he'd dribble past the entire team and score. I see them losing or drawing against nigeria too. Iceland at it again, I suppose.
The few decent players they have are strikers the remaining are mediocre

But this is the case for all countries. Some good players and some mediocre players. Argentinia's team is not all that bad on paper, they've got a bunch of decent players actually. They're no France/Spain/Germany that can field more than 11 top players, but they're not far down. People say that they only have messi, but Aguero, Dybala, Higuain, Di Maria, Icardi? Some countries could only hope to have players of that caliber, and then they also have Messi. And then the reasonable players they could field are pretty good too. There's a bit of a lack of creative midfielders - at least judging from the games I saw - but surely you can play with Di Maria or Dybala on 10 right?
The coach just made many weird decisions. You have european topclass attackers and then you start with some guy named Meza that plays somewhere in the argentinian competition. If I recall he didn't even select Lo Celso who played 33 games for PSG this season as midfielder (thats something they seem to be lacking in), and ofc Icardi was left home while he is a great player. I don't get what the fuck the coach has been doing to be honest. And yes sure, Argentinia isn't a favorite, but they could be so much better than we have seen so far.

Blaming the coach seems too easy imo. Messi for example was completely absent the entire match while Ronaldo carried Portugal twice in a row and the Karius-esque mistake for the 0-1 probably had a bigger effect.
Well, many players didnt play well clearly, but this coach made many weird decisions. I read somewhere that Argentinia actually didn't bring a reasonable goalie that played reasonably well somewhere in Europe, and instead brought some joke keepers - although note this is just something I saw someone write. Messi was bad too, precisely because he somehow tried to win on his own. Actually during the Egypt vs Russia game Salah impressed me - despite having a shitty team he resisted to urge to come pick up the ball in midfield and try to score on his own. Instead he just played like how he tends to play and did a good job at it, despite the fact that Egypt lost I thought he played well. Similairly Ronaldo just plays like an actual Striker and creates danger that way. Messi seems to think that the best way to carry his team is to go pick up the ball from a defender and then dribble past 10 men to score.

Isn't that like the ultimate humiliation for serbians? Goals scored by people with kosovarian and albanian roots.

Re: Official 2018 FIFA World Cup Thread
How did Nigeria play poorly in the 1st game, mediocre in the 1st half against Iceland, and suddenly comes back out of nowhere with nice attack and goals?
if they manage to finish 2nd of group D (as they're now) and if France finishes 1st of group C, we could see a RO16 with France-Nigeria like in 2014
