If Modric were from England he would be considered as one of the best midfielders to ever play tbh. Very underrated

he is already considered that :/
the midfielder (not talking about wingers and attacking midfielders) is just an underrated position, rather than modric an underrated player.

Modric is a great midfielder don’t get me wrong, but he isn’t greatest of all time midfielder type. He is a generational midfielder imo.

They were happy to just 0-0, especially after Peru scored their first goal.

This French team is not convincing at all. I don’t know if it’s the manager or the players not caring since hey are already through . There is clearly talent there but they are not utilising it properly.
Re: Official 2018 FIFA World Cup Thread
Is there a more boring team to watch that france with that potential?
Re: Official 2018 FIFA World Cup Thread
Germany is at least exciting because they keep almost losing

These boring matches by France remind me of the beginning of Euro 2016, except now we have a better team on paper. The players are good but don't synergize well. Well Fekir and Mbappé (only) do, as they did against Ireland but they came in late
Also I would have liked to see Thauvin this afternoon, sad Deschamps didn't give him a single minute while he could have played the whole match imo

France's team feels opposite to croatia's team. The midfield is not in balance and actually seems to be a bit weak for France.
Re: Official 2018 FIFA World Cup Thread
Too bad France doesn't face Croatia. We'd have seen if it deserves its status or if it's just a joke team.

I think the midfield is actually our strenght... Kanté is our best player and then Tolisso, Matiudi and Pogba are all very solid in paper. Though I admit that so far only Kanté was god and Podba good. What I fear for France is Umtiti really not at his best level in this world cup and I dislike a bit what Dembele+Mbappé are doing (they don't play very intelligent I feel). But if Giroud plays, this should be fine.
If Argentina doesn't improve his level, this should be no problem for France to pass the RO16.

Don't ever underestimate Argentina's ability to get absolutely carried by Messi. The only reason they are at this world cup is thanks to him.

I agree. Pogba and Kante straight up bullied Peru and Pavard and Mbappe are speedy guys who are going to match up well against the aging Di Maria and Argentine defense. Dembele hasn't been all that good but I still think that the midfield is going to help win the possession game against Argentina and as long as they contain Messi (yeah, I know, harder than it sounds) they'll be in a great spot.
