I had another look at this and I think I noticed what you were saying about the opening this time. What makes this l shape good for protecting corners? However later on this shape is weak because white is attached so they can prevent connection between the stones.

Am I doing something wrong if I am winning games btw?
Also any go streamers you would recommend?

I watched the AlphaGo documentary and my interest was piqued, I'll be investigating soon.

What L shape are you talking about? Is it on this page? https://senseis.xmp.net/?Shimari

Haha not in your play I suppose, but losing is surely better for learning
Also any go streamers you would recommend?
I like Batts but he might be a bit high level https://www.twitch.tv/battsgo/
I've also been watching some Chess players learn Go, which is entertaining. This guy is a national master in Chess and got started in Go like a month ago: https://www.twitch.tv/aakaash/ Probably good for learning because he gets a lot of tips from chat and good players come in to help him review his games.

Nick Sibicky has a lot of great lectures uploaded: https://www.youtube.com/user/nicksibicky/videos
Many are beginner-friendly, especially the earlier ones. Some recommendations:

Yes that's the L shape I am talking about. The first one called the small low enclosure. Well, it's that shape, but possibly not in that exact position. It's a knight's move enclosure from 4-4.
I guess I just need to play a few more games until my rank is corrected.
Thank you. Aakaash read me a bedtime story.

Shut Up & Sit Down, the best (and biggest?) board game review channel, just posted a video about Go:

Fun video for those who don't want to go into the technical details of the game, but want an idea of how it feels to play Go.

I played another 19*19 game today. My opponent was given a 2 stone handicap. I missed a few attaris, and generally got beaten at tactics, but won quite convincingly because of better strategy. Also had my first mutual Life in a game.

Nice. Always satisfying to lose fights but win in the end because your "macro" play was better throughout.
Lemme know if you ever wanna play

I don't know, it involves quite a bit of reading. Maybe you did win it, but it's not at all trivial to finish it off

The only win Lee got against AlphaGo was due to this move, which no one (including AG) expected

At that point, being 3-0 behind already, no one thought Lee would win a single game, so it was very cool to see him win after playing a move no one expected. In the AlphaGo docu they showed that it wasn't on AG's radar either, with its policy network (the one that's supposed to mimic humans) giving it a 1:10000 chance of being played by a human.
It's also really interesting to see it go on tilt afterwards and make mistakes not even mediocre players would have made.

If you haven't seen the doc:

Highly recommend

I don't like playing correspondence games. You can think about what move to make forever and I lose interest. I prefer to play blitz where the play is based more on intuition.

Yeah that's fair. I tend to think the same amount in correspondence as in live games but I can see why you would start to just use insane amounts of time to calculate. I always have analysis mode disabled in correspondence games, maybe that would help you. That way you have to do it all in your head and that means there's a limit to how far you can go. Also it's better for learning.

Personally I just really like the fact that I don't need to commit half an hour+ to play a game but can make single moves in between things. I recently calculated I make about 116 Go moves per day (I always have 24 correspondence games running at a time), which is a little more than a full game per day, but I never have to commit any time to play which is just very convenient.

The thing I dislike most about it is that sometimes I forget what I was planning to do in a certain game, and make some autopilot move in the position when I was planning something completely different the day before.

Although i'm bad at the game, thanks @Goodspeed for letting me know about GO at the Lan. It's become the new chess in my uni house after hours of asking my housemates to play :)
