Rent Control

Post by PeachTree »

As a resident of california, i have seen exhorbitant rates for renting appartments, especially recently. I believe a proposition to let local governments expand rent control was put forth to a vote last month that got shot down. How to solve this living crisis??? 3000 a month for a studio is terrible!!!!

But actually building buildings should be getting cheaper because we are building them better. Vertical expansion it is!

But what if I would rather pay $4500 a month in rent than live in shade?

3000 a month sounds great for the privilege of living in california

You can always get cheaper rent but you would have to live somewhere remote and boring

you dont necessarily have to accept the market rate. in a lot of countries, tenants are organized into councils that bargain collectively with their landlords over the price of rent, much like how a union can collectively bargain for wages. setting up tenant councils in high rent areas like california would be a good step, that wouldnt rely on contesting an election about rent control where the real estate developers had access to about 65 million dollars for their campaign against prop 10.
