Ray tracing in aoe 4?
Ray tracing in aoe 4?
Recently, the newest technology for graphics processing, real time ray tracing was implemented into directx12. For those of you who dont know, raytracing is a technology that uses vectors to track and project light sources in a virtual 3d space. The properties can be expressed via tensors and recently hardware has been brought forward that has specialized methods to support it. Do you think aoe4 could support ray tracing, since its based off directX 12?

It will be weird to see an Age of Empires game that requires modern hardware to run. It will likely never replace AoE 3 for Basement games because AoE 3 runs so well on many old and weak machines

How can an RTS even really benefit from this? RTS games don't really need to look great, even aoe3 (a 2005 game) still looks pretty okay for today's standards. The demands for graphics just aren't as high. Make a semi decently looking RTS game and it's graphics will be timeless.

Real time reflections is just 1 aspect of raytracing... Raytraced voxels can be used to replace shaders with multiple physical properties associated with them. This can make animations and effects like footprints more effective to render. The only unknown is the hardware requirements to do so. I believe intel is releasing a new graphics engine in 2020, with nvidia already launching raytracing support and whatnot. This means entry level hardware post 2020 (maybe thats when it releases) to be powerful or specialized enough to move from primitive shaders.

Who is Ray Tracing? Sounds like a movie star. The faces on the characters arenât very clear so I hope the developers donât spend too much time on hiring famous (at least I assume) actors and instead work on real issues like reducing bugs.

If AOE4 does come out, I think everyone would be more interested in the gameplay, rather than just graphics. Plenty of games out there which look stunning, but which have sucky and awkward gameplay.
Designing a game's gameplay is much harder than just building great graphics in it, imo.
