Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Well it really shows how democracy tends to create societies that are averaged downwards.
It's a race to the bottom when it comes to the quality of public life, because the most popular values are entertainment, materialism, fleeting fads, sports circus shows, etc.

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Tbh, last night debate was really boring, and nothing really happened. I'm disappointed in the moderators, not trying to ask how the candidates have differences on important issues. After this, NOTHING has changed. And Pete can keep on surging, pretty much, uncontested about his empty siouxt :)
Wish Sanders would make it clear how his M4A are different from Warren, and Pete. Wish the ppl polling at 2 - 6 points, would fight for their right to be on the next debate. This politeness serves nobody because whoever wins among these candidates, will face Trump --- and he certainly will not be polite. He will expose all the things that the moderators or their peers are reluctant to do now.

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Woke, but I want to knit pick over you saying that it is quality of "public life" which is decreasing. The demos is incapable of intuiting any transcendent knowledge, and can only actualize higher ideals when being lead to do so by those who still have a link with the transcendent. Because of this, a state "for the people" will almost immediately turn towards a cthonic debauchery which cares almost exclusively about economic factors. (this attitude towards the state began in the pre-modern era when Kings and the Church wrestled for control of spiritual authority; hitherto the spiritual and stately powers were synthesized in a single patrician caste) By definition, in such a system the quality of public life will increase. The mistake being made is the assumption that pleasing hordes of degenerates' sinful desires is innately a good thing, especially when it comes at the expense of the noble and the wise who are the only legitimate and efficacious leaders of temporal power.Dolan wrote:Well it really shows how democracy tends to create societies that are averaged downwards.

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
After reading the article, then rereading your comment, I'm not sure you understood it. The writer isn't criticizing TG for wearing a white suit. The point made in the article is that she's wearing white a lot, that it's clearly not an accident, and that people don't really seem to care as much as when Hillary did it. And then she goes on to explain why that might be. It's summarized in the last sentence:Cometk wrote:

But wait. Do you actually like her as a candidate? I've noticed people who like a candidate tend to consider everything that isn't praising them to be a "smear".clothes are only as meaningful as the content that fills them

"Trump says he will allow states to import prescription drugs to lower costs"
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa- ... SKBN1XW268
B-but I thought trading is bad, it's helping globalism and eroding national sovereignty. Also "they need us trading with them more than we do". Looks like that's not the case. American companies are pricing drugs so high, only imports could help bring prices to a more accessible level.
So by taking such a decision, Trump is basically proving himself wrong. He's proving the USA does need to trade, because the local health system and pharma sector are just so entrenched and powerful, legislators and the government can't do shit to reign them in, without letting (foreign) competition have its say.

Muh freedum and stuff. Freedum to tell you: buy this medicine at this high price or go get buried.U.S. prescription drug costs are the highest in the developed world because most other countries negotiate pricing directly with manufacturers, while drug companies are allowed to set their own prices in the United States.
Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
I never really got the impression that Trump was anti-trade. The whole point of stuff like the trade war is actually to trade more with China, by getting them to remove some of their inequitable trade policies. He seems pretty consistent about this whole "free but fair" trade thing.Dolan wrote:"Trump says he will allow states to import prescription drugs to lower costs"

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Yeah it always seemed to me like the trade war was just a negotiating tactic. Remember, Trump thinks he's the best deal maker in the world. What he may have missed is that the US economy is not as strong as it looks and he's much more politically vulnerable than China's government
