This just makes what you're saying have even less of a point then, I guess. If you aren't willing to click and see what the image is then why engage with it at all?Goodspeed wrote:A question mark is an opinion?

I've never had to click before so why would I start now? If, by embedding the tweet, we're not getting the full picture, you should put it between [ url ] tags so that it forces us to click. Otherwise people are going to reasonably assume the embedded tweet contains all the info they need.

That's absurd, the image preview is clearly cropped. If that's something that confuses you and you aren't willing to do the bare minimum to find out more information why comment on it at all?Goodspeed wrote:I've never had to click before so why would I start now? A little hyperbolic perhaps, but makes a good point about how the media is treating this like it's a trivial matter when it very much isn't

It looked to me like the tweet contained a screenshot from facebook that was already cropped by the user before it was posted.fightinfrenchman wrote:That's absurd, the image preview is clearly cropped. Re: 2020 US Elections
And when the screenshot didn't contain information related to the tweet, your assumption was that the person just randomly tweeted something that made no sense, rather than the more obvious explanation that social media crops images?Goodspeed wrote:It looked to me like the tweet contained a screenshot from facebook that was already cropped by the user before it was posted.fightinfrenchman wrote:That's absurd, the image preview is clearly cropped. No I assumed I was missing the link between the fb post and domestic violence due to ignorance

Yeah and assumptions are the mother of all fuck ups, blah blah blah. Have fun going through life without assuming anything. You'll get exactly nothing done.
Ngl it triggers me when people bash on assumptions. We all make them all day every day. 99% of the time they make us more efficient. But of course it's only the 1% that people notice and feel the need to comment on.

Well the article you linked to requires a sign in so I'm just not going to read it.Goodspeed wrote:Yeah and assumptions are the mother of all fuck ups, blah blah blah. Have fun going through life without assuming anything. You'll get exactly nothing done.
When posting a Medium article you should always ask yourself the question: Would someone who isn't on Medium all day understand my point?

2.) You implied that clicking a link I posted was too much work, so you may be making a bit too many assumptions

How do you know that was my implication? You wouldn't be assuming that?fightinfrenchman wrote:1.) Stop editing postsGoodspeed wrote:Yeah and assumptions are the mother of all fuck ups, blah blah blah. Have fun going through life without assuming anything. You'll get exactly nothing done.

Okay, you're not even making a point. All you did was lazily refuse to click a link I posted and now you're trying to make it into some sort of point about Twitter being bad, even as you link to some other social media service that requires you to log in to read the post.Goodspeed wrote:How do you know that was my implication? Re: 2020 US Elections
I don't really have any interest in engaging with that though, since you couldn't do the bare minimum of engaging with what I posted, aka one click. I could forgive you if your OS was made by the DE developers though, perhaps clicking is very difficult for youGoodspeed wrote:Incognito tab might work. That's ok you don't have to. I assumed you wanted to read it because you seemed to imply that the only reason you weren't is that it required a sign in

Can you just admit that your initial post was dumb for not being willing to just click on a link I posted?Goodspeed wrote:That's ok you don't have to. I assumed you wanted to read it because you seemed to imply that the only reason you weren't is that it required a sign in

If it was a link I may have clicked, but when it's embedded like that I (imo reasonably) assume it contains the entire tweet. I didn't know twitter embeds crop images.

Re: 2020 US Elections
I don't really care, I just thought it made a good point and was a fun read (in a way) so I posted it. The difference though is that when the header of an article gets embedded, no one would think it contains the entire article. Twitter embeds usually do contain the entire tweet.

The important thing is that you don't admit you were obviously wrong, because that would be cringe.Goodspeed wrote:I don't really care, I just thought it made a good point and was a fun read (in a way) so I posted it. My assumption that I was missing the point due to ignorance was certainly wrong in hindsight. But I don't think it was unreasonable to think that twitter embeds contain the entire tweet.

If your first reaction is that me and the person who made the tweet are dumb, you may want to reconsider your first assumption. Why is the person randomly talking about domestic violence? What's the relation between that and the fb post?
