It's completely absurd that you don't get one.
He might qualify though. I know legal permanent residents who got the full amount for the last two payments.
The scientific term for China creating free units is Mitoe-sis.

There's too much judgement in politics based on optics today.
Normally, nobody should care that a senator from a state that is currently going through a freeze and power cuts is away with other personal issues.
But today, you have to be on the ground, do that photo op with people from a shelter, while you're handing them some blankets and water packs, to get that political street cred.

And that's the result of democracy, in which optics management and appeasing "the people" through symbolic and fake gestures matter more than substance and someone actually doing their job where their job actually is.

What do you think Ted Cruz's job is, and what do you think he thinks his job is?

His job is to be a senator, that is to participate in making laws on a national level. He's not a governor, he's not in charge of managing local administration.
Do senators in the US have local administration roles?
Beside just meeting with voters for lots of reasons, but as far as I know a senator doesn't handle local administration.
You could say that, informally, a senator can have a lot more influence even over local stuff, but it's not part of his job.

Idk, I don't follow Ted Cruz. Just saying, in general, I don't see any problem with senators or congressppl being away when their state is hit by a storm or powercuts.
They feel compelled to show up and do that "helping" photo op, just for the optics.
And now that Cruz dared to not follow that convention, media and pundits are on his case like vultures. I mean look at this headline

Wtf, his poodle? How is this a subject of national interest. :|
Why don't they focus on whatever the Texas governor is doing to manage the situation on the ground, rather than following Cruz on his Mexican cruise and stalking his poodle.

Sensationalist bs and media becoming a tool of democratic gossip.

He should be posturing like he's doing stuff to solve problems, even if it's not his job. He doesn't have a budget for this, nor any legal tools.
Unless he makes a law that congress would pass on a national level for the federal government to do something.
But then I think Texas refused federal help. So what else can a senator do. He should be doing that photo op with people in shelters, imo. Handing water bottles and blankets to the people.
Then the situation would be solved.

Honestly I didn't care until I found out he abandoned his poodle. Now I want to impeach him.

He might be implying that just as daymios give a buff to nearby units, so an elected political leader should be present in his community to raise his voters' spirits, or some analogy like that.
