I wouldn't say loose cannon, more that I think she would be bad at running a campaign on her own. Biden should have picked Tammy @Vinyanyérë worth imospanky4ever wrote: ↑04 May 2023, 20:15I can c that, tbh. Nobody can challenge an incumbent potus. But do you also acknowlegde that Carmela Harris is a loose cannon? There is a good chance that she will be president if Biden wins 2024

If I were a petal
And plucked, or moth, plucked
From flowers or pollen froth
To wither on a young child’s
Display. Fetch
Me a ribbon, they, all dead
Things scream.

This would make me feel threatened and I've been reliably informed by various political commentators that when a stranger makes you uncomfortable you're allowed to kill them

Damn this thread never gets old always up . USA should remove 2nd Amendment & we would have less shooting incidents.

Most shootings in my area are targeted so I don't personally worry about it for myself. Although the threat of it does make me less likely to angrily honk at someone when driving in case they pull out a gun and "go nuts"Challenger_Marco wrote: ↑19 May 2023, 20:16Tell me honestly are you or any Americans living there afraid to go out? it's so scary to hear news of gun shootings happening at USA often on internet as it can happen anywhere.

Obviously the takeaway from this story isn't about what happened post-birth, but the fact that this whole situation is now mandated (and it wasn't so before).

Re: US Politics Megathread
Sure it's a fucked up situation.
It is a super-edge case, though. A case in which a newborn turns out to be biologically nonviable, but the ultrasound failed to show anything. To make a point about the whole situation using an edge case is not the best way of arguing about this.
Maybe the bigger takeaway is how modern medicine fails to predict which foetuses are going to turn out too messed up to be allowed to be carried to term.
Flawed foetuses should definitely be aborted.
Nobody should have to live through this

Re: US Politics Megathread
Not sure about that frankly. There were some studies on how African kids from some tribes react to emotion-inducing imagery and they mostly remained deadpan. The researchers were baffled how their idea of a "universal empathetic response" shaped by studies in the Anglophone West did not hold in Africa. I guess culture goes a long way and deeply enough to shape emotional reactions too. And the human responses we think are universal are not really, it's just a halo effect of living in a culture that spreads these ideas. A culture-shaped affective style.
Re: US Politics Megathread
What? The parents are quite aware and had to watch their newborn struggle to live and then die. That's why it's a sad story.Dolan wrote: ↑20 May 2023, 09:11You're projecting a level of existential anguish that only becomes available once you develop full awareness, which the newborn lacks.fightinfrenchman wrote: ↑19 May 2023, 22:34This was incredibly difficult to read
