Dude should probably retire tbh.
Re: US Politics Megathread
It would be nice if he could retire, and I think he hoped to after this term, but afaik there's no alternative against Trump in 24.

I mean, he is 80, he probably tripped on something and fell, it could just as easily happen to a 20 year old. He is president of US but still human. I am all for bashing his presidency and everything but this incident has no relevancy to any of it. Using this incident to say he should retire is ridiculous.
Fine line to something great is a strange change.
Re: US Politics Megathread
I wasn't implying such an incident proves Biden is unfit for the role, just that such an incident could have the same effect on his reelection chances as Hillary fainting during the campaign.
It's about perceptions and public opinion, not about truth. He will be mocked during the campaign for being tumbly Joe or something like that.
I don't think it matters much who will win the next presidency of the US, because the situation there no longer has a political solution.

I imagine incog’s post was about the additional indictment charges trump faces

Re: US Politics Megathread
Idk the idea that Trump could get an actual prison sentence for just mishandling a bunch of papers (that's how his supporters will see it) could be seen as disproportionate and lead to a major political backlash.
Especially if his voters fundamentally do not trust government institutions and think that the lawsuit was fabricated to prevent him from running for office again.
In their eyes, Trump would become a martyr fighting for American freedom from a corrupt government sold to the WEF and other satanic global organisations that are working on destroying America.
They will think if "they" can take Trump down like that, then their guns will be next as the government and the evil global cabal wants them disarmed, silenced and unable to oppose a corrupt power that wants to turn their kids trans and bring immigrants to make their votes not count.
Trump is well aware that these lawsuits could boost his chances of reelection by victimising him. In fact, he'd do his damnedest to get reelected to escape any prison sentence and pardon himself, which might work with a sympathetic supreme court.

I find DeSantis more of a threat than Trump. Trumps a moron but DeSantis is mask off evil.

Re: US Politics Megathread
Hoping Trump wins the nomination so I don't have to figure out how to vote as I promised friends I would vote if Desantis was the nominee
Re: US Politics Megathread
You should be voting either way even if it doesn't count
Re: US Politics Megathread
Isn't that pretty much exactly how Republicans have any sort of agency in America's politics these days? They count on people not showing up to the urns and not just for the federal elections but also state and local elections.
Re: US Politics Megathread
Yes but voting is objectively a waste of time regardless

It isnt a waste of time, but statistically speaking it is a particularly meaningless way to spend your time.callentournies wrote: ↑11 Jun 2023, 21:50unless it isn't.

Re: US Politics Megathread
Also you have to think of how Trump's supporters would even see the whole mishandled papers lawsuit thing.
They think Trump by taking those papers made the Deep State lackeys tremble because their interests have been exposed. Like what kind of state secret is that that he had papers about some potential military attack on Iran?
Wtf are we doing in Iran, since when are we using taxpayer money to pay for fixing other country's issues?? Those are not state secrets, those don't represent us, the people's interests, those represent the Deep State who wants to attack Iran for its own interests. So from our point of view, Trump did nothing wrong.
In fact, by taking their papers and talking about them, he exposed the corruption of the Deep State. This lawsuit shows that the Deep State lackeys are working for the Democrats and the military industrial complex, for their own interests. They're using the state to wage wars and involve America abroad and then those people hate us and it's their fault. Trump refused to play their game and now they want to do everything in their power to stop him from getting reelected.
