Joe Biden may owe up to $500,000 in back taxes, according to government report

Let's see if Biden is grilled as much as Trump.

Sucks that people from native English speaking countries have such piss poor control over the language. I mean I always knew Americans sucked at English, even at their own version of it.fightinfrenchman wrote:What are you talking about, Trump was barely grilled at allprinceofcarthage wrote:Joe Biden may owe up to $500,000 in back taxes, according to government report

Sigh
As much as, it is a comparison. If trump got grilled for x unit of measurement then will Biden get grilled for same or not. It doesn't state an opinion about whether it is barely, too much or whatever.

Man, first learn the language. Not that I care but it's the required language on forums.

It very clearly implies it, which is a function of language I guess you don't understand for some reasonprinceofcarthage wrote:It doesn't state an opinion about whether it is barely, too much or whatever.

Re: US Politics Megathread
It doesn't, it simply compares 2 parts of the statement. If I had said media grilled trump too much, let's see if they grill Biden as much, then you would be correct.fightinfrenchman wrote:It very clearly implies it, which is a function of language I guess you don't understand for some reasonprinceofcarthage wrote:It doesn't state an opinion about whether it is barely, too much or whatever.

At least you got that correct.

Maybe I misunderstand something, then please correct me.
The fact that we know about potentially problematic tax avoidance means that the public at least has access to his tax records, much in contrast to Trump who didn't want to publish them. Biden is unlikely to do his taxes himself. I guess he paid some accountant to do this for him properly and, assuming that everything was done well, publishes his records.

Re: US Politics Megathread
I made exactly the same argument about Trump when this was discussed here. Could probably be easily found with a well-placed search. Since Trump is from a richer family, it's likely he has lots of employees managing his taxes, so he probably doesn't even know how much and what exactly is paid or owed to their IRS.duckzilla wrote:Maybe I misunderstand something, then please correct me.

I think this shows that these people who live in high places don't think of themselves as ordinary, they don't think rules apply to them. That's valid for both Trump and Biden. They just think they're part of the elites, so they operate on separate rules. They pay lawyers to deal with this stuff and to sort things out in a way that makes them pay as few taxes as possible.
Re: US Politics Megathread
The difference to Trump would be, that he did not publish his tax records, thereby giving room for speculation.

Re: US Politics Megathread
He didn't probably because it would show that his companies owe a lot of money and that would look bad for his typical triumphalist image.

Do you believe that Trump is still under audit, and do you believe that being under audit means you can't release your tax returns?Dolan wrote:He didn't probably because it would show that his companies owe a lot of money and that would look bad for his typical triumphalist image.

Re: US Politics Megathread
It depends when the audit started. From what I'm seeing here (US lawyers association: https://www.americanbar.org/groups/busi ... 8/06_wood/), normally an audit can last about 3 years, or 6 if they detect understatement of income. Anything beyond that means no return or a fraudulent one was filed, in this case your IRS seems to reserve the right to have an audit without any time limit (no statute of limitations).fightinfrenchman wrote:Do you believe that Trump is still under audit
So if his audit started more than 6 years ago, there are probably no reasons not to have been completed by now.
If you're under audit, there's nothing to release, imo, because the tax returns are not recognised yet as legally cleared.do you believe that being under audit means you can't release your tax returns?

What do you think of Anglo-Saxon electoral system? Where the votes and seats not proportional for more decisive government.
