The GOP is at a crossroads for sure, their base is dwindling by nature of population demographics and the last administration’s response was an attempt to bypass the democratic processes. It still is at the state level w/maps (see Ohio). They just can’t win fair. The whole party has to drop the losing culture wars and shift to reflect actual moderates or double down on being anti democratic and pro false news. Elections at state levels and election denialism is paving the way for a less ad hoc presidential takeover.

There’s infighting at which way to move, I think. Long-term moderatism stands in opposition to the short-term appeal being far right affords the party. Cheating is powerful. Alienating doesn’t matter when you cheat. The party is digging a hole and isn’t sure how to get out fairly, could b.

What solves problems is legislation. There’s no common ground in Congress as to what issues are, let alone how to solve them. It isn't a both-sides thing. The game is now to get power. It’s a complete one-sided sham.

Criminalizing murder is generally a sign of progress.

And I'll believe it when I see it. My guess is Kavanaugh or Gorsuch will change their mind and vote to uphold the law. The leak is obviously meant to intimidate them into doing just that.

In this day and age you can tell the boomers from the non boomers by the people who think "Anita B Etin" posting about food is a legit account, especially when the top tweet has a note that says "This is a satirical tweet from a parody account. "

What about the train accident in Ohio? Our news said it's "another Chernobyl" "causing millions of cancer" "US government blocked all the reports". Is it really that serious?

I hadn't heard of it, though I don't follow US news in political dry season. "Millions of cancer" seems like a huge exaggeration. But regardless, while you don't have basic human rights I wouldn't worry about other countries' train accidents

probably not Chernobyl but certainly another Flint and probably than worse than that. Yes, seems like a lot of suppression/obfuscation of what’s going on

It's weird that there is so little verified information out there. There seems to be a significant effort to limit any news.
Maybe they were transporting something related to the military on those trains? I struggle to imagine any other reason for such limited news.

And there's also a ton of unverified reports that are scary.

It's just trains of ethyl chloride (making plastic bags), instead of secret usages. But that's poisonous indeed, and a whole state has beed polluted now.
This accident should be evitable: ethyl chloride are generally made where they're used, so they needn't (and shouldn't) been transported by trains at all.

Anybody who said something to the effect of "nobody is talking about this" should be ignored going forward because that's blatantly untrue
