US Politics Megathread
Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Soo, what happens if Sanders or Warren get elected and by the time they're sworn in office all US billionaires have moved their wealth outside the country and left? They could move to New Zealand or Australia.
How will Sanders or Warren get the money to fund all their promises?

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Making fun of this ridiculous dance trend makes you biased? Also her cohost is a conservative Trump voter. Very biased left wing coverage indeed.
mad cuz bad
Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Who said anything about her cohost?
Anyway, I've seen some of her videos and she isn't, and doesn't try to be, objective. And what it says about the empty promises and crushing failures of neoliberalism

Then people will finally realize capitalism is a joke. They will realize that in the current system not the presidents, but the rich people have all the power and they will start a revolution.Dolan wrote:Soo, what happens if Sanders or Warren get elected and by the time they're sworn in office all US billionaires have moved their wealth outside the country and left? That’s refreshing in my opinion. All news hosts have bias, and they try to hide it which makes it disingenuous. Personal opinion I guess.Goodspeed wrote:Who said anything about her cohost?Anyway, I've seen some of her videos and she isn't, and doesn't try to be, objective. And what it says about the empty promises and crushing failures of neoliberalism

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
I wouldn't call that a news host, then. To me there's a difference between news and someone's opinion. And yeah, every writer has bias but there's a difference between a biased reporter who doesn't admit to it, and a reporter who actively tries to stick to the facts. I'd argue objective reporting is a pretty basic skill for any journalist, but maybe that's no longer the case in the current media climate. Either way I can't take journalists seriously when they don't at least try to be objective.n0el wrote:That’s refreshing in my opinion. I do get that you find this trend refreshing. But it's also kind of dangerous. Even when "news" hosts' bias is obvious, people will still take their words as truth without due diligence. E.g. Fox news.

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
I just found it bizarre to read so much into something innocuous. Also it's annoyingly cynical to mock people for being excited to part of the political process

Right. That's why I brought up bias. It betrays that she is unhappy with how well Pete is doing and feels the need to attack him over nothing. Such childish behavior is disappointing from journalists.
Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Where doesn't she stick to the facts? That's where I personally see the difference. You can have an opinion and stick to the facts to support it. Or you can blatantly lie and skew facts to your opinion (Hannity et al).

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Stick to the facts as in report only the facts. People can form their own opinions.
Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
When she gives her opinion.
only the facts

Do you think it represents the empty promises of neoliberalism, whatever that means?Cometk wrote:the fact is that that dance is a travesty

I do support campaigns having their own dance. Imagine Trump and Biden supporters having a dance off.

Unfortunately there is no market for that, especially for an internet TV show.Goodspeed wrote:When she gives her opinion.only the facts

Yeah, that's part of why I wouldn't go looking for good journalism on an internet TV show. It's definitely still out there though. WaPo and NYT are great newspapers.
