46 millions inhabitants in France in 1962 and almost 70 millions in 2017 + the energy consumption is much higher.
The point is that the CO2 emission has skyrocketed globaly (x2 x3 in developped countries) but not in France, thanks to nuclear.

Nuclear is not renewable and many from the left hold to the dogma that energy must be from renewable sources.

Cause you're always going to have water flowing around as long as the sun doesn't start turning into a red giant and boils the oceans.
So, all you have to do is harness the power of water movement as much as possible without messing too much with the ecosystem and the rivers' flow velocity.

Dam failure rarely happens and doesn't cause more than flooding. Worst case scenario happened during WW2, operation Chastise, when Brits bombed a few German dams, causing catastrophic flooding and killing 1600 villagers.

I agree with @Diarouga, that nuclear energy has saved us burning A LOT of coal. I would also predict that it has a place in the future if we are to curb our emission of carbon dioxide. Problem is the nuclear waste, and thus far, there is no permanent storage for it (Nobody wants it in their neighborhood).
There are maybe more safe ways to use nuclear energy in the future, using Molton salt reactors, and Thorium. I have not had much news about the progress of actually making Molton salt reactors compatible lately though, but I know that China and India are exploring its usefulness. Btw, Thorium is much more common than Uranium and could provide us with energy for thousands of years.
One other "nice" thing about a Molton salt reactor, is that it can actually use the nuclear waste we already have, and while giving us lots of energy, the waste from it will only be toxic for 100s of years, instead of 1000s.
Problems with accidents and blow-ups are practically zero.

If we were to shut down nuclear plants and replace it with coal plants, it would be disastrous. If we can build enough windmills, solar panels, harvest wave energy, it will surely be better, but I am not sure we can be able to replace carbon at a pace that is needed, without nuclear energy.

We could create a device which captures AOE3 players' tilting energy, produced while playing on EP maps.

Then power Garja's house with it.
