Tomorrow me, cheadar, gustav, and another unnamed Basement member will be heading to Wildwood, NJ for a several-day excursion to the beach. Any information or fun updates about this adventure will be posted in this thread. Also feel free to recommend us places to go (especially cool restaraunts) or things to do while we're there.

The Basement is a small but integral part of the larger Age of Empires III community. We are, out our core, a group of AoE 3 players who regularly play LAN games in a basment (hence the name). Many years ago, games were played in an upstairs room; these were known as the "neolithic den games." However, far more time has been spent in the now-iconic Basement.
The Basement's foray into the ESO-Community began in the summer of 2014, when Basement member evil cheadar stumbled upon the forum, surprised that an old game like AoE 3 still had such an active community. After participating in the community for a while, he introduced it to me, FightinFrenchman. Due to the distinctive profile picture I used for my avatar and my rather active posting style, I quickly gained the nickname "The Ear," which as stuck with me ever since! Another fellow Basement member, gustavus adolphus, also joined the forums around this time.
After a few months of using the forums, I began to get frustrated with some of the decisions and the haphazard nature of the forum staff, prompting me to start the #modtheear movement, as I wanted to provide my services as an unbiased moderator. The movement has not succeeded yet, but the Basement has found other ways to help contribute to the community in the mean time.
In January 2016, we launched Revolt, the first-ever Age of Empires III podcast. This gave us a unique platform to discuss events in the Basement and around the wider Age of Empires III community. Over a year later and the podcast is still going strong, with thousands of listens and many wonderful guests.
But our most important contribution by far was created through a partnership with SIte's Insight Studios platform. We joined forces to put on the Basement Insight Charity Telethon 2017, a 24-hour long straem of AoE 3 games, hosted by me (The Ear) and co-hosted by a variety of great community members including site, evil cheadar, gustavus adolphus, Sir Callen, duck, noissance, and more. We raised $1,805 for the charity Doctors Without Borders, which provides medical care to people in impoverished countries.

Is this an elaborate Trump D-Day reference? That's disrespectful towards our Troops. Do you support the US Military?
